I don't say this lightly: Rob Dulin and Ian O'Connor, owners of Fun Run Racing and the Running Store in Gainesville, VA have done everything right to all but guarantee that the new event they are conducting in September, the Prince William Half Marathon at Jiffy Lube Live, will be an out-of-the-park home run.

Fodderstack 10K Classic

If you are not running Pike's Peek 10K this year, consider this fine low-key race the day before: Fodderstack 10K on Saturday, April 25th: www.fodderstack10K.com . A lovely small-town point-to-point 10K sponsored by the Inn at Little Washington. in its 37th year, the race features a hilly and beautiful USATF-certified course and a delightful awards ceremony on the Washington, VA courthouse lawn. Lots of race awards and cool random prizes.

Certify Running Courses in the Washington, D.C. USA region.

I am trying Kickstarter to see if I can fund a project to certify popular uncertified running courses in the D.C. - Baltimore region. I have no idea if this will work, but I figure it is worth a try.

Most road and cross-country races in the region are conducted on non-certified, inaccurate, poorly mapped courses. I can fix this.

There's a fine new 8K coming to Bethesda Sunday, May 4th. Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is holding its inaugural event at the station on Battery Lane. Check the USATF certified course here and stay tuned for updates.

www.Fodderstack10K.com : At least once in your life, run or walk this scenic point to point 10K from Flint Hill, VA to Little Washington, VA. One of the best small town races in the United States. The awards ceremony, sponsored by the Inn at Little Washington, features coveted Merrill Strange pottery race awards and random awards of B&B stays, restaurant meals, and free tastings at VA wineries. For me, always a memorable day in celebration of Appalachian spring.

Not usually a fan of "own horn tooting". However, on March 1st I was honored both by taking over John Sissala's position as USATF Maryland Certifier and by the IAAF in being promoted to "Certifier Level B" status. I am especially grateful to John Sissala for all his teaching, mentoring, and support over many years; and to the meticulous and generous Bob Thurston for his patient schooling me in advanced measuring techniques.

Light the Way 5K - 2012

A unique new USATF certified 5K race at Nationals Stadium on Saturday, September 29th to benefit Columbia Lighthouse For The Blind. A relatively fast course in the Capitol Waterfront area, starting and finishing at the Stadium. Safeway, Coke, and several other vendors promise a post-race feast. The outfield warning track will be open for a cool-down jog.
