Honestly, this is one of the questions I get asked most.
And the answer is: it depends!

For beginners and social groups, I generally say plan for 30 to 45 minutes per game. And we all know that when the social group really gets to socializing...it might take a little longer. No judgment whatsoever. πŸ˜‰

The important thing? Don't stress about being a slow player, especially when you're learning. Speed comes naturally with time and practice. Focus on understanding the game and having fun at the table, and the rest takes care of itself.

I'd love to know - how long does a typical game take at YOUR table? Drop it in the comments! πŸ‘‡πŸ€„

There are dozens of Mahjong tile sets to choose from these days β€” with more showing up in online marketplaces every week. The options are endless and honestly a little overwhelming.

But do you know who sold the very first tile sets in the US? πŸ€„

Abercrombie & Fitch. Yes β€” THAT Abercrombie & Fitch. The one at the mall.

Long before the logo hoodies, A&F started in 1892 as an outdoor outfitter. And in the 1920s, they became the first store in New York City to sell Mahjong sets. They sold out almost immediately β€” and when they did, company founder Ezra Fitch sent people to cities and villages all across China to buy up every set they could find.

Sound familiar? πŸ˜„

The hunt for the perfect tile set is apparently not a new problem.

I'd love to know β€” what was your first tile set, and how did you find it? Drop it in the comments! πŸ‘‡

It's good to know when to pivot but how do you even get to that point? It starts with the Charleston. Some tiles should never be passed during the Charleston and if you need to pass them, do so as early in the game as possible (once play starts). Some tiles are a safer bet during the Charleston. This is where strategy takes over!

These hands all have a pretty cool overlap of tiles and can be great pivot options. To practice. With each of these build line 1 then "pivot" to line 2 to see how they work together. This is a great way to grow your Mahjong strategy for more wins!

Pivoting can feel foreign to new players but once you break down how it works and what lines have overlap, it becomes easier to stay. Tune in for posts on most pivotable lines and hold/pass tips!
