Matrescence, a motherhood fashion story shot on film //

I had the absolute pleasure of capturing this beautiful woman (and new friend), Yoseline, and her sweet baby boy, Ambrose, at their countryside home this past weekend.

We incorporated her wedding veil in some of the photos and she styled all of her looks. Did I mention that she’s an incredible stylist?

Yoseline and I talked on the topic of newly becoming a mom and all of the changes that come with it. She shared the word “Matrescence” with me which is the developmental phase of new motherhood. The physical, emotional, hormonal and social transition to becoming a mom is like adolescence — a transition when hormones surge, bodies change, and identity and relationships shift. The sometimes anxiety-provoking phase of stepping into your “new mom” identity.

A beautiful but at times messy and difficult transition for many. So much respect for you moms (new and seasoned). It was evident to see the love that Yoseline had for her little man and what an honor to capture it on film.

Downhome Darlin’ // my latest fashion story on film inspired by some of the best parts of my hometown in the Central Valley. The farms, the produce, and the livestock combined with my love for fashion are what made up this editorial. This project has been on my heart for the past two years and it’s meant so much to finally bring it to life.

I started with this fabulous blue fur coat and knew I wanted to build off of that for all of the other fashion pieces. I added a ruffle lace trim to the coat and paired it with white Gucci tights. I also found the most perfect blue and white floral fabric that reminded me of country china and sewed a statement gown out of it. Most of the rest of the pieces used were vintage and second hand.

I gathered the best team of gals from the Central Valley, who helped with all of the day of wardrobe and made sure everything was in its place. Seriously such a sweet and gifted stylist herself and was incredibly helpful on set. modeled and was such an effortless beauty and a joy to photograph. She was living out her dream around all of the farm animals. Hehe. Lastly with Smith Farms let us come play with their beautiful hens and goats and we had the most fun at her farm! I’d also like to take a moment to shout out thee cutest polish hen who modeled for us. Not over her fluffy head. I couldn’t have pulled off this dream project without this amazing team. Thanks you ladies so much!!

Thank y’all for the love you’ve shown over the bts stories from this day! My heart is full.

My latest fashion story for Flanelle Magazine // Ya girl has been published!

I can’t think of a better way to announce my shift in career to a full time Fashion and Beauty Film Photographer than by being published in one of my favorite fashion magazines, Flanelle Magazine. My most recent editorial work can be found on their website and I could not be more honored and excited about it!

Massive shout out to my lil team Julia Symonds and FACE by Raymie for helping to make this vision a reality. You both are incredibly gifted 🤎

All of my life I’ve been artistic. From a young age dancing ballet, jazz, and tap through college, photography and dark room developing in junior high, a sewing/fashion design course in high school, as well as drawing and painting courses in college. Art runs in my blood. I’ve loved being able to express myself through so many mediums. Being an artist can take on many forms and does not need to remain the same. Over the years I have learned that you can truly do anything with passion, effort, and grit.

For the past several years I’ve been photographing my own floral/styling work and have always loved the art and heart behind images. A little over a year ago I decided to teach myself film photography and begin transitioning into fashion/editorial film photography. I researched for more hours and months than I can count and studied and poured myself into practicing. I also dove into learning more about the industry and connected with some amazing fellow artists who’ve inspired and empowered me. It’s been a major labor of love that I have wholeheartedly treasured. Im so passionate about combining my love for film photography, creative direction, and fashion together to make meaningful art and can’t wait to show you all of the new and exciting things that this year holds! && You’ll notice some changes over the next few months as I adjust to this new venture.

As for flowers, ah, my first love after leaving a career in Dental Hygiene. It’s been a wildly amazing ride with flowers, one that I’ll remember forever. All of the amazing couples and creatives that I’ve been so blessed with creating for, My heart is SO FULL of joy and gratitude for all of the memories and experiences with you! 🥲 I’ll always have such a love for the art of flowering and won’t ever fully stop creating with floral but I’ve chosen to finish off this year of flowering strong (along with a few I have booked for next year) and I won’t be accepting any floral inquiries after that. It’s bittersweet but I’m very excited for what the future holds as a Fashion and Beauty Editorial Photographer. You’ll find most of my current work on my Instagram so go give me a follow there!

Stepping into this role fully has brought a whole spectrum of emotions in all the best ways and I just want to thank you all for cheering me on and encouraging my passions. I’m so so grateful for you. Thank you for being here 🤎

Xx, Ash

The beauty of flowering and styling for retreats and styled shoots is that there are endless possibilities to which design direction to take and what to dream up. You can bloom it up, get crazy with dried florals, or maybe even a little of both, whatever fits your vision! Try not to always get caught up with what’s trending or what you see on pinterest and stick to what is true to you as an artist! For this event I had a unique and unconventional vision in mind. I wanted to play on desert colors and textures and create pieces that you could find growing wild in the desert and pair them with contrasting softer textures. I so love the turn out and had such a blast keeping things funky!! Cheers to more dreaming and creating to come!
