BLACK DANDYISM AND THE ART OF BECOMING.

SAVE THE DATES | MAY 14 – JUNE 12, 2027

Black culture is not seasonal. Black art doesn’t need a commemorative month to deserve space. And Black identity has never been limited to how the world expects us to show up.

The MUSE•eum (Muse) x Antoinette Cauley (Antoinette Cauley) present Black Dandyism and the Art of Becoming, a multidisciplinary group exhibition at Alwun House (Alwun House) featuring Black artists from across Arizona.

More than fashion, Black dandyism is a practice of self-authorship, challenging expectations around race, gender, beauty, and belonging while reclaiming the power to decide how we are seen.

For one month, we’re bringing Black art and culture to life through exhibitions, storytelling, workshops, artist conversations, and community experiences.

The building may still be on its way, but the institution is already being built.

We’re kicking off Season Two of The MUSE•eum events (.eum) with Centered.PHX (.phx) documentary screening of Toni Cade Bambara! ()

Join us at Phoenix Center for the Arts () for a screening of TCB: The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organizing, a documentary celebrating the life, work, and cultural legacy of writer, filmmaker, educator, and organizer Toni Cade Bambara.

It feels fitting to begin our second season with a woman who understood that storytelling, art, community, and organizing aren’t separate practices. They are ways we build culture together.

We should also document where we gathered, who gathered us, what we listened to, where we danced, which nights became “that night”, and who created the conditions that allowed us to find one another.”
