We’re postponing tonight’s Poets Pit at World Cafe Live.

For the past 3 years, WCL has been home for us. A place where we’ve held space for healing, joy, truth, & community.

But recently, that space has shifted.

Key staff we’ve worked with for years have resigned or been let go under new leadership, & many of them have now walked out. These are the same folks who helped us build what we had there. Who cared about the experience, the artists, & the people in the room. & this city.

They asked us if we’d stand with them & we said yes. So we’re pausing, with intention, with love, with alignment.

This decision comes from love, not conflict, from the people, for the people. We’re hoping WCL makes things right so we can get back to what we do.

Also, our featured poet, , is standing with us in this decision. & we’re inviting our community to do the same.

You can follow & share , & meet us outside in protest tomorrow.

This is about standing with the people who made the space feel like home in the first place.

Here’s the thing.. tomorrow night, we’re turning the lights low & making space for each other at The Poets Pit.

Every time we link up, it’s more than an “open mic”, it’s family pulling up, breaking bread, passing the mic, sharing something honest.

If you’ve ever needed a night to just exist, to hear something that makes you want to write again, or to lose yourself in somebody else’s story for a while, this is it.

Blu () is our feature. You might already know the name, you might not, but trust us, you’re gonna feel every word.

& that open mic list? That’s where the magic happens. That’s where strangers clap for you like cousins you haven’t seen in years.

We got food that hits, drinks flowing, games, karaoke for the brave & bold, & a spot for any live painter who wants to work right in the middle of it all.

Show up with your poem, your hunger, or just your ears. The only thing you can’t do is come through & stay the same.

Doors at 6PM, we get started at 7:30PM.

Ticket link in the bio.

Come get this experience.

Next Tuesday, The Poet Pit is back & this one’s special.

We’re bringing Blu all the way from LA. A award-winning poet, published author, & a force on every stage he touches. You’ve seen him at the Pan African Film Festival, SoCal Poetry Fest, Busboys & Poets, Martha’s Vineyard HBCU Arts Showcase, & more.

If you know, you know.. Blu is the kind of poet who makes you feel every word. It will be an incredible set.

Pull up for a night of real poetry, music, games, food & drinks flowing, & an open mic filled with hitters.

We pack out World Cafe Live every month, & this one’s about to be unforgettable.

Don’t miss the energy. Tag someone who needs this in their life.

TONIGHT. We’re back at REC Philly, & this one’s already special.

A journalist will be in the room tonight covering the experience, & we’re also capturing some behind-the-scenes footage throughout the night. So if you see Luis recording, come say what’s up. Be part of the moment.

Doors open at 6pm. Open Mic kicks off at 7pm. We end at 10pm.
Location: REC Philly, 9th & Market (inside the Fashion District)
Enter at the colorful REC door outside the mall. Bring ID for security.

Once upstairs, check in with our team member Trinity, she’s got the full list.

🎟 Tickets are $25.
If money’s tight right now, you can grab one for $15, no questions asked. Still too much? Send any amount to $voicesinpower on Cash App with your full name in the subject, & we’ll add you to the door list. (once tickets are sold out, that’s it)

We don’t want cost to keep you from something beautiful. Because tonight will be that.

🎤 If you’re a poet, we’ve got a new sign up system tonight with something special:

There are TWO buckets:
– Our usual Open Mic Bucket: 1 poem, 5 minutes max
– Feature Raffle Bucket: Chance to do a 15-minute feature set & $250

You can sign both. If you’re selected as the feature, we’ll remove your name from the open mic list. We’ll draw the feature live at the top of the show, projected on the big screen for everyone to see. If it’s you, we’ll bring you backstage to prep.

🚨 Signing a raffle ticket does not guarantee you’ll be selected to perform.

🎨 We still have space for ONE vendor & ONE live painter.
DM us now if you want in.

& of course — expect the vibes:
Food. Desserts. Drinks. Live art. Vendors.
Karaoke competition. Games. Music.
A free photobooth with high quality digital copies.
& the dopest crowd in the city.

If you’ve never been, this is the one to start with.
If you’ve been distant, this is the one to return to.

Tag your crew. Pull up deep. Let’s make it a night to remember.

Alright poets, here’s the move..

We’re switching it up next Saturday.

For the first time ever, we’re running two raffles, & yeah, you can sign up for both.

Open Mic Bucket:
Sign up if you want to share one poem (up to 5 minutes). Simple.

🧡 Feature Raffle Bucket:
This one’s special. One poet will be randomly selected to become the Featured Poet of the Night, that night. That means a 15-minute set + $250 + our stage to end the night.

& we’re making the selection something special.

At 7PM, when we kick off the night, we’ll throw everyone’s name on the big screen, live in front of the whole room, & the system will randomly pick the winner right there.

You’ll feel the whole room watching that moment unfold. It’s gonna be dope.

If your name gets called, you’re our feature. You’ll get access to the Green Room to get 30 minutes to prep before your set, & then it’s your show.

You can sign both buckets, but if you’re chosen for the feature, we’ll take your name off the open mic list.

Be ready with a full 15 minute set if you sign that feature raffle.

June 7th. REC Studios. 6–10PM.
Food. Drinks. Vendors. Live Art. Games. Music. Energy like nowhere else.

Our Story

Voices in Power is a group of artistically inclined individuals reaching out to our local communities in the City of Philadelphia, as well as the surrounding area. We began as a group of poets encouraging others to express themselves in the same manner, while providing events for their voices to be heard. This event accepts talent of any form, to not only foster the idea of being heard, but also to fellowship with like-minded artists. With such a passion for expressing ourselves through words, we found ways to share this passion with others outside of our own organization. We adopted a college tour where we visited several universities in Pennyslvania and New Jersey, to provide a taste of our talent and efforts of changing lives in a collegiate setting. These events include hosting a VIP spoken word event, offering students the opportunity to be heard, and collaborating with events like hair shows and fashion shows that integrate poetry. Voices In Power has been blessed with the opportunity to touch so many lives since its birth. For this reason, VIP has grown tremendously, expanding our talents from poets to musicians, artists, web designers (?), comedians and we are constantly welcoming more. Occasionally, VIP is invited to perform at events by different organizations, such as cancer awareness fundraisers. Invitations like these truly represent the touching effect of the movement. "We are only heard if we speak" is embedded in our lives. This is more than mere words, it serves as a motivation to use talent as a tool to change lives in our communities.
