Well, PG13 also known as the 38D went out to the dirt and had a few first and a few well known troubles. Friday night was her first time hitting a track on dirt. She strapped in and gave it all she had, the car on the other hand wanted to pretend to be an animal motor and sputter. Coming out of the heat she felt a little defeated but never gave up. We made a few adjustments on the car between the heats and the main which made the car actually run a little better but not perfect. During the main, she was learning, and learning did she do when she slide up, hit a rut that in turn made her right rear tire met the entrance wall. This spun her around and ended up in the front stretch wall. Not much damage was had but the car wouldn't re-fire.
Saturday was a new day and a new chance to learn more. Dad and Mark Ashcraft went to work on carburetors to see what we could adjust to make the car run more efficiently and at its peak performance, to our knowledge at least. She went out for hot laps and the car looked much better, and sounded much better. In the heat she finished sixth, not bad for her second time in the car. She mentioned the car was doing a few things she's not use to on pavement, we advised her how to overcome those things and we also adjusted the car a bit. We were confident going into the main, we were going to witness what we had all learned. The main ended short when we were lining up and our chain popped off, apparently dad isnt very good at chains anywhere, maybe a chain company will see this and sponsor us with tech tips and installion instructions. What we learned was a new chain stretches and we have to check it frequently.
All in all it was a wonderful first time on the dirt track. We may not be the high dollar team but we make best with what we have and we continue to learn, adapt and overcome.
Thank you to everyone who makes this dream of our kids come true, it truly would not be possible with out all of you. Support those who support us.
