Does the DJ you book for your wedding even matter? Debatable.
Let me be very honest about 2 things:
1. There are a lot of people who know how to DJ (and are very good at it).
2. And yet, most of them could never do a wedding.
Why?
In my opinion, DJing a wedding only requires 2-3 skills. Knowing how to DJ, understanding the bride & groom's "vibe", and playing to the crowd. Seems simple right?
But actually knowing how to DJ is the easiest part.
What's not easy is understanding your client well enough to take control of the night's energy/vibe and give them the freedom to enjoy the one day (of their entire life) where they are marrying one another.
And what about switching from Rihanna to ACDC to Frank sinatra? The bride, her father, & her grandfather all have vastly different music tastes, and my job as a DJ is to make sure the day is special for as many friends & family as possible.
You may have music during your ceremony, your cocktail hour, your dinner, & your partying. All of which are very different vibes. When you are unsure of what these vibes should be, you rely on your DJ to help guide you.
When someone says the DJ doesn't matter, I simply explain a few of these concepts. Sure, you can find a DJ to play the music you send them. But do you trust your DJ enough to also give them control, guide you through the night and provide a memorable experience for everyone?
