We have been a little busy around here…

Back to school, flowering weddings, buckets of flowers, more buckets of flowers… you know, the usual chaos.

But just because we haven’t had time to post a Tuesday Tea doesn’t mean there hasn’t been tea.

She always has tea. ☕️

This week, you get a lovely preview of our dahlia fields and apparently a tutorial of some of our very intricate production processes.

Follow for more unsolicited, behind-the-scenes training videos from our management team 😂

If you’re new around here… hi! 👋🏻 Welcome to Sunkist Acres. 🌻

And yes, this photo was taken by my daughter. 😂

This is pretty much what running a flower farm looks like from her point of view — Mom sitting at the table, working on wedding plans, answering emails, making lists, and somehow trying to run a business while also being Mom.

I’m the person usually somewhere behind the flowers — planting, harvesting, planning, making a mess, chasing kids, or wondering why I thought growing this many flowers was a good idea.

Sunkist Acres is a small, family-run flower farm in Oxford, Michigan. I started this farm because I love growing flowers, but even more than that, I love what flowers can do — bring people together, make an ordinary day feel special, and connect people to something grown right here at home.

So what are we doing over here?

🌱 Growing flowers for our local community
We grow cut flowers right here on the farm and supply local florists, floral designers, events, and customers looking for bouquets of locally grown flowers.

💐 Creating beautiful things
From wedding and event florals to buckets of fresh flowers to individual bouquets, we get to turn what’s growing in our fields into something people can enjoy.

🌻 Helping you grow your own
One of my biggest goals for Sunkist Acres is to become a resource for backyard gardeners who want to grow more flowers — especially flowers they can actually cut and bring inside.

👩‍🌾 Sharing the real farm life
The beautiful blooms, the muddy boots, the kids running around, the things that work, and the things that absolutely do not.

And ultimately, I want Sunkist Acres to help more people get their hands on locally grown flowers — whether you’re a florist looking for local stems, a gardener wanting to grow your own bouquets, a couple planning an event, or you just really love flowers.

So if you’re new here, welcome. 🤍
I’m glad you found us.

And if you’ve been here for a while — thanks for following along as this little farm continues to grow. 🌻

Dahlias really said “you get ONE chance to cut me right” and meant it.

Unlike that bouquet of grocery store tulips, dahlias do NOT keep opening in the vase once you cut them. Whatever stage they’re at in the garden when you cut them, they are stuck at forever. Cut too early and you have basically adopted that bud that will never grow up.

This is the sweet spot - not tight, not fully blown open and dropping petals on your counter. Juuuust right.

It takes a little practice to train your eye for it, but once you start paying attention you’ll see the difference.

Tag a dahlia loving friend who is Goldilocks looking for that juuuust right.

And if you’re a backyard Gardner trying to grow more flowers and slightly less chaos, follow along for Flower School- where we share what we’re learning here on the farm.

THEY’RE HEREEEEE! (Finally!)

The dahlias were slow to bloom this year- very slow- and for a while we wondered if we were even farming right!

But then, almost all at once…they arrived with a bang!

This handful was all I could hold in one hand, but, had I actually been prepared with a bucket on my evening walk about, I could have kept picking. Although, I’m sure you can hear the soundtrack of our little farm in the background yelling “MOM” for who knows what reason, so I actually probably couldn’t have kept picking and the handful was just enough 😂

If you planted dahlia tubers from our little farm this season, let’s see those blooms! Drop a photo in the comments or tag us in your dahlia bouquets so we can admire what’s growing in your gardens. 🌿

And if you’re new here, follow along for more flowers, farm life, and all the beautiful things we’re growing.

Of if you just like the soundtrack of our farm 😂🌸

The Tuesday Tea is for all the fancy moms ☕️

POV: your daughter/the apparent farm manager thinks you’re a fancy mom but you’ve spend the day covered in dirt, with uncontrollably frizzy hair, harvesting flowers in your crocs.

Honestly? I’ll take it 😂

Send this to another fancy mom ❤️

After all the flooding here in Michigan, we weren’t sure our peonies would survive.

Now, we walk the rows and hear:

“It’s growing good” 🌸

And somehow… it really is.

This season was almost a wash.

Looks like we’ll have peonies to share with you after all 🤍
