A Cautionary Tale: Beware of the ticks this year! As you may know our family lives in the Villages of Oscoda. Early this week my husband began to feel quite ill. He told me that he was having pain all over with terrible nausea. The next day he felt even worse so I checked his temperature. I was stunned to read 103.4 on the thermometer. I got him to the hospital emergency department where he was finally diagnosed with the tick born illness Anaplasmosis. Here's the kicker, we were told by the doctor that my husband was the fifth person admitted to the hospital with this in the past two weeks. Also, if he had not gotten timely medical care Anaplasmosis could have killed him! All this from the tiny tick my husband had found attached to his arm after taking a walk one evening nearly 3 weeks ago. Don't let this happen to you! Ticks are outside in unusually large numbers this year. We've been told that in order to be safe all of your skin must be covered and you must wear a personal insect repellent with Deet. Please keep your family safe. Happy summer!
