Well, it’s that last weekend push, and we all know how it goes. Things take just a little longer than you planned.

So I’ll be spending the next three days busting ass and finishing up all the odds and ends, and Wiley and I will continue getting the suspension in. We’re getting close.

Check this out. The steering is working with the actuator, and I’m excited to get it in. The bags are in to let it go up and down. The new links are in, allowing the axle to pivot up and down so the build can “drop it like it hot” and sit fully on the ground. The new axle is in the booth getting closer. So we’re looking pretty damn good. Lastly, we cut out the center of the weeks and welded a 1/4 plate to reinforce the wheel but also match the new 6 lug heavy duty hubs.

Now it’s just a bunch of odds and ends and a whole lot of last-minute work.

I’m excited. Can’t wait to see you all out there and rock out with the Ticket Booth.

Some of you might be wondering what we do with all our free time…

Well, with a week to go, we are dropping in a new badass front end on The Ticket Booth.

The axle, kingpins and knuckles are out of a 1957 C5700 truck. Our latest Ticket Booth recruit (well I’m still working on him!), mister King of Hammers (as we like to call him) Wylie Vann, the suspension and welding bad ass has us cooking with gas and taking a new approach.

He machined off most of the original spindle, leaving just enough to mill new ones that will sit over the old ones and get welded all the way around.

We are using a six-lug hub to help carry the load. To keep the wheel size down and convert to the six-lug setup, we are welding a 1/4” steel plate, with the six-lug pattern drilled into it, inside the steel wheel. This reinforces the wheel and lets it mount up accordingly.

We are also getting rid of the steering all together, because no Ticket Booth should have a steering wheel. I like it to look like a building with no car showing when it’s sitting on the ground. So this year we are trying an electric actuator that will control the steering with a joystick.

And lastly, of course the building needs to be able to “drop it like it’s hot”, and hide the car underneath, then lift up and drive away. To help with the bucking bronco effect, we are adding front and rear shocks to go along with the airbags.

And since we’re already up on jacks, I figured we might as well reinforce the two-ton rear axle with a piece of channel welded in as an axle stiffener.

Because apparently this is what we do with our free time a week before Burning Man.

And don’t forget, if you’re coming to the Playa, our annual Thursday night party at the Office of Permits and Regulations is ON.

Out on the open Playa (see image for map). Same spot. Same time. Like 23 years running now.

Come see your favorite The Ticket Booth DJs and that damn fire extinguisher art car Red Hot Beverly - The Fire "Extinguisher" going at it all night.

We’ll start at about dark o’clock.

See you out there.

Last but not least, meet our lead fabricator, CEO of all the shenanigans, Playa Hack King (he calls himself Sofa King but we know). None of this would happen without Edgar aka DJ SkinnyFat. Meet your 5th and final DJ for this year's fundy.

We asked Edgar Blazona to answer one of these questions; he answered them all. Overachiever in some ways and you'll see that if you're at our fundy tomorrow and try and comprehend how he just built what he built. It's always 11:59 with this guy and he comes through every damn time.

What is the biggest physical or mental “survival” challenge you’ve faced on the playa?

For me, I almost cherish it when something goes wrong.

The Ticket Booth weighs about one bazillion pounds, and we’ve been in a constant battle trying to build a suspension that can actually survive the playa. Something is always bending, breaking, or teaching us a new lesson.

Most people think the biggest survival challenge is the dust, the wind, or the rain. Honestly, I’m prepared for all of that.

The real challenge is when something catastrophically breaks and you still have to use it. That’s when the game begins.

I love standing there thinking, “Okay… what do I have with me that can make this work?” You start looking at every bolt, every piece of wire, every random bracket you’ve been carrying around for years, and suddenly your brain shifts into problem solving mode.

We call those “playa hacks.” They’re rarely pretty, but they get the job done.

Those are the moments I live for. It’s me versus the machine. Me versus the impossible. And somehow, almost every time, we figure it out just enough to make it to the next party.

That’s where I shine.

How would you describe your Burning Man community? And how have they helped shape who you are today?

People always talk about Burning Man as the place where you find yourself. For me, it’s where I found my people.

I’ve been coming out here for more than 25 years, and so many of my closest friendships, collaborators, and chosen family came from this community.

These are the people who show up when you have a crazy idea. They’re the ones who help you build impossible things, solve impossible problems, and remind you that creating something ridiculous is actually worth doing.

They’ve made me a better builder, a better leader, and honestly a better human being.

The coolest thing I’ve ever built isn’t an art car or a camp. It’s the friendships that came from building them together.

What is your ultimate track for bringing a divided dance floor together?

If I had to pick the kind of track that brings a divided dance floor together, it’s something that blends old school hip hop with bass house.

Give me a Too Short, Biggie, or Eminem vocal that everybody knows, layered over a big, bouncy house groove with a nasty bass drop.

That’s my happy place.

I love that moment when people hear something familiar and you can literally see it happen. Their head starts bobbing, they look over at me in the booth, give me that little smile or the cool guy nod like, “Okay… I see what you’re doing.”

For me it’s nostalgia mixed with surprise. I want people to think, “I know this song…” and then suddenly it’s turned into something completely different that makes them want to move.

That’s the moment I chase every time I DJ.

What is the first thing you want to see when you finally step onto the playa?

Honestly, it’s not the Man or the Temple.

It’s that moment when the city finally comes into view. You crest the rise, look out across the playa, and realize that for one week, this impossible city exists again.

Then I want to find my people.

The hugs. The smiles. Walking into camp and seeing everyone working together, laughing, building, and getting ready for an incredible week.

That’s the moment it all becomes real.

After 25 years, that feeling still hasn’t gotten old.

Next up in our "Meet the DJ" series is resident Ticketbooth DJ, D2.

We asked D2 Denise Martin how she would you describe her BM community and here's what she had to say:

Doers. Professionals. Builders. Activists.

There’s a preconceived notion that Burners are hippie, raver druggies wandering around the desert. I can say that with confidence because I used to think the exact same thing. My opinion was based entirely on conversations with other people who, like me, had never actually been.

When I met my partner, she told me Burning Man was a huge part of her life and hoped I’d eventually go. I laughed and said, “Not a chance.” I knew almost immediately she was my person, so I figured I’d probably end up attending this oddball festival someday. What I didn’t know was how profoundly this community would change my life.

The first time I went, Laurie Klein encouraged me to volunteer so I could find my people. I signed up at Center Camp Stage and found myself setting up microphones, checking sound, tuning speakers, and connecting with incredibly interesting musicians and crew rats between sets.

Over the years, I’ve met musicians, doctors, lawyers, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, contractors, and every variety of tech nerd imaginable. What I discovered is that Burning Man is full of professionals, but not the kind who follow the Lego kit instructions. We’re the people who dump the pieces on the floor, ignore the picture on the box, and build something entirely different.
On a small scale, we’re all Lego kids.
At Burning Man, we’re all builders.
We build art, camps, art cars, experiences, friendships, and community. We’re also a giant support network. Imagine your bike breaking down and, within 5 minutes, a crew appears ready to rebuild your bottom bracket simply because they want to help. That's normal out there. At home I'd probably say, "Dude, that sucks," and point you toward a bike shop.

This community cares deeply. We love to tinker. We stay curious and unapologetically childlike. We ride our bikes too fast (well, I do). We carry zip ties, duct tape, and protein shakes for emergencies that may or may not exist. We solve problems, celebrate hard, and show up for one another when things go sideways, whether that's a dust storm taking your stuff or an art project wearing you down.

Most importantly, this community has encouraged me to become my whole-ass self.
It helped me discover parts of myself I didn't know existed. Like becoming a goddamn DJ.
I used to hate DJs. Then I took the time to understand the craft and discovered how creative, technical, and rewarding it can be. Had I never found this community, I probably would have kept rolling my eyes at DJs instead of becoming one. Now I get to stand behind the decks, curate a moment, and watch people on the dance floor grinning ear to ear. What an incredible gift and the entire reason I do this.

The community continues to thrive because the people who were welcomed, supported, and inspired feel compelled to do the same for the next generation of Burners. I know I do.
I will forever be grateful for this collection of weird, brilliant humans who have become family.

And for anyone who thinks they know what Burning Man is but has never been, I'd encourage you to spend some time talking with people who have. Better yet, be brave enough to make your own journey to the playa and find out for yourself. (Please see Edgar Blazona. He really loves bringing new Burners.)

And then there's the feeling every builder knows.
When you've spent months creating something with a crew and finally roll it onto the playa; lights working, wheels turning, subs bumping, smiles for miles, there is nothing else like it.

All the late nights, problem-solving sessions, fails, wins, and ridiculous ideas suddenly become real. For a moment, you get to stand back and admire what a group of humans can accomplish together when they're creating solely for the joy of it. There are no words that adequately describe that feeling.

My Burning Man community knows exactly what I mean. They're probably smiling right now because they know that moment when you look around at what you've built together and think: Holy s**t... we actually did it.

That’s my community!

"Meet the DJ" part 3. We are thrilled to have Deadbeatz (Adam Rose) from the Red Hot Beverly - The Fire "Extinguisher" crew. We met on the playa a few years back and loved him immediately. His beats are dope and he's a funny MF. We are fired up to have him join us for this years fundy.

We asked Deadbeatz a couple of questions and here's what he had to say:

How would you describe your BM community? And how have they helped shape who you are today?

Big-hearted, smart, creative, hard-AF working, hilarious ANIMALS! They non-stop bring it out of pure love for the game and expect nothing in return. They've helped me understand how much more satisfying it is to bring the party vs. just "go to the party" (even despite our painful lack of roadies!). What you put in, you get out tenfold!

What is your ultimate track for bringing a divided dance floor together?

Well don't divide them in the first place, lol... ;) But a solid go-to that gets everyone smiling but is still sufficiently grimy is Million Booties by Defkline and Red Polo. Timeless classic...

What is the first thing you want to see when you finally step onto the playa?

A sunrise. At the trash fence of course.

Next up in our annual 'Meet the DJ' series, we've got DJ ShOOey! We've been trying to wrangle her to play this event for the last three years and she finally gave in knowing we'd never stop! We're pretty excited we finally wore her down to come and play with us!

We asked DJ ShOOey some questions about BM and DJ'ing and here's what she had to say.

What is the biggest physical or mental "survival" challenge you’ve faced on the playa?

I think the hardest emotional challenge I had was in 2018, when I had a plan to go to the playa for the sole purpose of saying good bye to 3 friends I had lost in the last couple of years. At the time, my work schedule required that I be back before the gates opened. I got an early arrival pass and spent three days visiting friends at their camps, hoping to spend my final 4th day at the Temple to honor my friends. I was sad to discover the Temple was not complete yet and they weren't letting the public in to visit. With the help of friends in emergency services, they were able to get me into the Temple (with a hard hat) so I could say my final goodbyes.

How would you describe your BM community? And how have they helped shape who you are today?

Supportive. Inspirational. Creative. My BM community has been my cheerleader on and off playa for the last 24 years, as a DJ and as a human. My first camp was the Deep End and they warmly welcomed me to SF and the world of BM with open arms. I started DJing with them in 2003 and after the camp "retired", I joined the Space Cowboys in 2008, with whom I have been actively involved from event planning, finances, non-profit fundraising, and DJing. Both camps showed me how the formula of great music, positive vibes, teamwork, and some good ol' organizational skills can unite a community.

What is your ultimate track for bringing a divided dance floor together?

Bradley Drop + Proxxy & Lantern - Give Yourself

What is the first thing you want to see when you finally step onto the playa?

Get on my bike and just wander with no agenda!

We're back! Join us August 1st for the annual Office/Ticketbooth Fundraiser where we'll show the finale of HBO's Documentary, The Man Will Burn, as well as our usual bombsquad of DJ's. We are honored to have this low end God joining us this year.

First up in our "Meet the DJ" series is Santa Cruz's own, Karl Wenn aka Lowdeka.

We asked Lowdeka what his ultimate track for bringing a divided dance floor together was and here's what he had to say.

A good funky, bass-heavy track can usually do the job. Something with enough groove for the house heads, enough weight for the bass people, and enough soul that everyone can find their way into it. Or the nostalgia of a classic or popular remix. Depends on the crowd but here are a couple examples of modern classics.

You can hear that big Lowdeka sound here:
