One wedding planning tip we’ll always stand by: have a contract with your vendors.

Even if they’re your friend.
Even if they came highly recommended.
Even if you trust them completely.

A contract makes sure everyone is on the same page about:

• What’s included
• What you’re paying for
• Payment dates
• Cancellation or rescheduling
• What happens if plans change

And read the whole thing before you sign it. If something is unclear, ask questions. If something you discussed isn’t included, ask about it.

It’s not about expecting the worst. It’s just helpful to have everything clearly laid out from the beginning.

If you’ve ever worked with us, followed along for a while, or gotten a very questionable email from us, you’ve probably already met some of the Opal & Ivy pets.

They’re a pretty big part of our everyday life, so it’s time to introduce the crew.

Milton
Our sweet orange boy. He would happily lay on you and make biscuits all day long. We tell him he’s Employee of the Month every month at the biscuit factory, and honestly, he takes the job seriously. He also sounds like a pigeon when he purrs 🥹

Marvin
Our sassy, fluffy gray boy whose specialty is 11 PM–3 AM zoomies. If you ever get an email from us at an unreasonable hour, Marvin probably woke me up. His zoomies sound like a herd of elephants.

Mercy
THE QUEEN. She’s a Sour Patch Kid: she loves affection until she doesn’t, and then she’ll skin you alive. She also knows she’s the cutest girl in the world and will sit on the keyboard if she thinks we aren’t paying enough attention to her. So if you ever see “aaaaaa;;;;;;;;0000000” in an email, blame Mercy.

Piglet
Our sweet hognose snake. We never thought we’d call a snake cute, but here we are. She is very much KP’s girl, and if Dawn gets her out and Pig smells KP, she wants NOTHING to do with Dawn. She also wipes her face after every single meal. It is THE CUTEST.

Winston
Technically Dawn’s brother’s dog, but he has earned an honorary spot in the Opal & Ivy crew. He loves people, demands all of your attention, gets fed ham by Grandma, and has the cutest little bow legs.

So that’s our crew. They may not answer emails or coordinate vendors, but they keep us company, keep us laughing, and are very much part of our everyday lives.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we’ll be out of the office Wednesday, September 30 through Sunday, October 4.

We’ll be back Monday, October 5 and will get back to messages then.

Things your planner wants you to know:
Your wedding timeline is definitely WAY more important than you think.

It’s not just “ceremony at 4, dinner at 6.”

Your timeline has to account for hair + makeup, getting dressed, first looks, photos, vendor setup, guest arrival, transportation, cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, sunset photos, dancing, and about 28 other little things.

And all of those things affect each other.

If hair + makeup runs late, that can push back photos. If photos run late, that can push back the ceremony. And suddenly you’re behind before the party even starts.

That’s why we don’t just throw some times into a Google Doc and call it a day.

We build your timeline around your actual wedding, your vendors, your venue, your priorities, and how you want your day to feel.

Because your wedding day should feel like you’re enjoying it, not constantly wondering “what are we supposed to be doing right now?” 🩷🫶🏼

Things your planner wants you to know:
That Pinterest wedding might not cost what you think it does.

You see the pretty tablescape, the flowers, the rentals, the signage… but you don’t see everything that went into making it happen.

There might be delivery, setup + breakdown, labor, rental minimums, custom pieces, taxes, and a bunch of other little things hiding behind that pretty photo.

And prices can change A LOT depending on where you live, your guest count, your date, and your vendors.

This is where we step in!

Send us the Pinterest photos you’re obsessed with. We can help figure out what you actually love about them, where your money needs to go, and how to get that same feeling without trying to recreate the photo exactly.

Because honestly, we don’t want your wedding to look like Pinterest.

“But have you worked at our venue before?” 👀

We get this question ALL the time, and we totally get it!! You want someone who knows the space and isn’t figuring everything out on your wedding day.

But here’s the thing. We’d rather you hire a really good coordinator who knows weddings than someone who just happens to know your venue.

Because our job is to coordinate your wedding.

We know how to build timelines, manage vendors, troubleshoot, keep things moving, and catch the little things before they become big things.

And when we’re working somewhere new? We ALWAYS do our homework.

We walk the space, talk through the logistics, learn the venue’s rules, figure out load-in, parking, vendor access, setup, ceremony + reception flow, and all of the little details that make each venue different.

Then we take all of that and build a plan around YOU.

You don’t need us to have every inch of your venue memorized. You need us to know what questions to ask, what to look for, and how to handle it when something inevitably doesn’t go according to plan.

So if you find a coordinator that you LOVE but they haven’t worked at your venue before, don’t count them out!

Ask them how they prepare for a new venue. That answer will tell you a whole lot more.
