Hey everyone. We are still happy with this year's turnout but we have been tossing around ideas for changes next year. I wanted to share some thoughts we have as well as open up to you all about any things you might like to see for the event. If you have any suggestions or things we should/could fix, please leave them on this post or message me directly!
The biggest issue i believe we had this year was our misunderstanding with the location. We thought where we hosted was a general area inside Haworth Park but we were informed that day that it was actually a private location owned by a great guy who was kind enough to let us stay. But because it wasnt planned, he didnt have the restrooms open. This problem will be solved next year being as we intend to go back there and actually give him some notice this time!
This big potential change is that we are considering changing the event from a group ride to more of a Bike and Car show style event. If this happens then we would also have a bikes only memorial ride the day before or after which would be much less of an organized event. Alot more of a "meet up and go" kind of ride.
The idea of a bike/car show sounds nice because Colby was also a car enthusiast just like he was for bikes. And this help us reach out to a wider community.
We also fully intend, and look forward to working with The Kim Foundation again next year to help spread awareness for mental health. This year we were able to donate just over $250 to them and we hope to increase that next year.
We will likely also be changing from us grilling hotdogs to a food truck (or maybe a few). Ideally we will try to make a deal where if you buy a certain amount of raffle tickets, you can get a food voucher. The truck(s) haven't been chosen yet but if you know of one, let us know!
Lastly, the raffle prizes will likely change next year so that more people will be interested. I feel the cycle gear cards this year worked great, but if there are cars at the show, the owners may not be as interested. We are considering something like Visa cards or maybe a general store like target or Walmart. Let us know what you think!
Our main goal here is to grow this event more and more every year to both remember our dear friend Colby, and to raise awareness for what his and his family went through.
