A Gothic Blessing for Beloved Pets

When moonlight drapes the silent night
And shadows rest in silver light,
I call a shield both soft and strong
To guard my pets the whole night long.

By candle flame and midnight air,
Let peace surround them everywhere.
Keep illness far, keep fear away,
Bring comfort through the dark till day.

Let paws walk safely, hearts stay bright,
Let gentle dreams hold them tonight.
By love that binds and spirits true,
This blessing now I send to you.

Mote it be.

🕯️ The Word “Witch” Was Meant to Be Feared...
Not because of what it was, but because of what it threatened.

The word “witch” was never neutral. It was used to mark someone. To set them apart. To make others step back… or turn against them.

A “witch” was often someone who:
saw too clearly, spoke without shrinking, refused to live quietly inside what was expected....So the word was shaped into something dangerous. Something people were taught to fear. To reject. To distance themselves from...

Not because those people were evil, but because they were uncontrolled.

Fear has always been a tool. If you can make people afraid of something…you don’t have to understand it. You don’t have to face it. You only have to push it away.

And that’s what happened.

The word “witch” became a shadow placed on others so no one had to question their own discomfort.
Even now… You can feel it in the way the word lands. The hesitation. The assumptions. The quiet judgment that still lingers
But there’s something else there too... Something older.

Because the same word that was used to isolate, is now being chosen… deliberately. Not softened...

Chosen.

And that changes everything.

Some words carry history in them. “Witch” is one of them.

The Maiden, Mother, Crone is not just a symbol of stages, it is a mirror of the identities you move through again and again in a single lifetime. Not in a straight line, not once, but in cycles that repeat every time you grow, break, rebuild, and return to yourself differently.

The Maiden is the part of you that begins. Curious, open, full of possibility. She is who you are before the world tells you who to be. The part of you that says yes, that explores, that trusts without fully understanding why.

The Mother is the part of you that creates. Not just life, but meaning, boundaries, stability, and direction. She is the version of you that learns responsibility, that nurtures what matters, that builds something real from experience.

And the Crone, the most misunderstood of all.

She is the part of you that sees clearly. The one who has nothing left to prove. The one who lets go of what no longer aligns without guilt. She is not the end, she is the truth you arrive at after everything else has been stripped away.

The mistake is thinking you only live each of these once.

You don’t.

You return to them every time you change.

Every time you start over, you are the Maiden again.
Every time you build something new, you become the Mother.
Every time you outgrow it, release it, or see through it, you step into the Crone.

And then the cycle begins again.

This is why growth can feel so disorienting. Because you are constantly becoming someone new while carrying the wisdom of who you’ve already been. You are learning how to hold innocence and experience, creation and release, softness and clarity, all within the same life.

You are not “losing yourself” when you change.

You are moving through your own cycle.

So if you feel like you’re starting over, like you’re rebuilding, like you’re letting go of things that once defined you.

That isn’t confusion.

That is evolution, happening exactly as it should.

You are not one fixed identity.

You are the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone, all at once, and always becoming.

Mercury retrograde ends March 20, and the shift shows up in real, everyday ways. It influences communication, thinking, timing, and how smoothly life connects, so when it finishes, those areas start working cleanly again instead of feeling tangled.

• Clearer communication: During retrograde, messages get twisted, texts disappear, and conversations create confusion even with good intentions. After it ends, words land the way they were meant, people understand faster, and energy stops getting wasted fixing mix-ups.

• Forward movement: Projects stall because details slip or timing feels off. Once it ends, replies come through, decisions happen, and things that felt frozen begin moving again.

• Better decision-making: Retrograde brings hesitation and mental fog, turning simple choices into something heavy. Afterward, thinking sharpens, and choices feel more direct and grounded.

• Smoother plans: Travel, schedules, and routines get disrupted with delays or last-minute changes. When it ends, plans run more smoothly and hold together with fewer interruptions.

• Renewed energy: Constant friction drains energy in the background. When that lifts, motivation returns, making action feel easier and more natural.

• Easier problem-solving: Problems feel harder when information is scattered or unclear. After retrograde, everything connects more clearly, and solutions show up faster.

For empaths, old souls, and introverts, this shift hits deeper because they pick up on subtle tension and disconnection. When retrograde ends, that pressure eases, creating a clearer headspace and a stronger sense of flow in daily life.

Familiars 🖤

Not every witch has a familiar.

And not every animal is meant to be one.

A familiar is not simply a pet, it is a spiritual companion.

A being who chooses to walk beside you.

Sometimes they arrive quietly.
A stray that appears at your door.
A cat that refuses to leave your altar.
A crow that watches you from the same tree every morning.

They are drawn to energy.

To intention.
To magic.

Historically, familiars were believed to assist witches in their workings… carrying messages between worlds, amplifying protection, and sensing what human eyes cannot.

But the bond is not commanded.

It is recognized.

If you have ever had an animal who seemed to understand you in a way that felt… otherworldly,
who stayed close during ritual, grief, or transformation — you may have already met yours.

Not owned.

Not summoned.

Chosen.

Witch’s Lesson of the Day #3

A lot of people think cleansing and protection are the same thing, but they’re actually two different steps.

Cleansing is removing energy that doesn’t belong.
Protection is keeping it from coming back in.

So if you’re feeling heavy, anxious, irritated, or like your home feels “off,” you cleanse first.
Then you protect after.

Cleansing can look like smoke, sound, floor wash, salt, or even just opening a window with intention.
Protection can look like thresholds, wards, mirrors, oils, protective candles, or prayers.

And here’s the part most witches forget…

If you only protect without cleansing, you can trap the old energy inside.
If you only cleanse without protecting, the energy can drift right back in.

So if you want your magic to feel stronger, more stable, and more peaceful…
Start thinking in two steps:

CLEANSE.
THEN PROTECT.

Mote it be.
