Last selfie. 1419 S 13th Street was my home for 7 years. We opened March 1st, 2019 with no experience and lots of hope… one year before a global pandemic. It was a Trump presidency (not my president) and the economy was happy because, hey the stock market was up!
This girl had no stocks, but her husband agreed to let her put their house as collateral for an SBA loan and we got to work. We built something beautiful. A magical place, hidden from the world, for women to put on clothes that meant so much more.
It feels like I’ve lived many lifetimes in 7 years. There have been losses, but so much joy. I gained skills and a confidence in myself I never expected to have. My very being changed. My family changed. I watched a preschooler turn into a pre-teen, added a baby to the mix, lost a pregnancy, lost a wonderful father in law, lost an irreplaceable mother in law, started a new job, got diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD, OCD. I drank a lot. I started a sobriety journey. I made some of the very best of friends along the way. I guess I also sold quite a few wedding dresses.
I’ve learned that nothing ever stays the same, and the world will always change around you whether you like it or not. I have always, always had a difficult time living in the present. The future is much more interesting me. But the last 7 years has made me learn, I must enjoy the present. Find contentment. Not let this capitalist hellscape beat you down. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, I cannot control it. But I have today.
Our new journey begins in the Old Market next weekend. You’ll find us in the Passageway with a new name, Rosette. We aren’t finished with the branding, the buildout is still in progress, but we have brides coming, and I’ve never felt so excited. It’s a new chapter, and you’re more than invited to come along. Cheers to the next 7 years 🥂
