Preserving a bouquet in silica, step by step!
Every bouquet is different. There are many factors that affect how flowers preserve, as well as the methods and techniques needed to achieve the best results. But here’s the drying process broken down into its simplest form!
Step 1:
Start with an airtight plastic container, fresh silica, some scissors or pruning shears and the bouquet!
Step 2:
Pour a layer of silica into the bottom of the container.
Step 3:
Cut the blooms off at the base of the stem.
Step 4:
Place the blooms on top of the silica sand in a single layer.
Step 5:
Cover the surface of the sand with your flowers, ensuring there is a margin of space between each bloom.
Step 6:
Cover the blooms in another layer of silica sand.
Step 7:
Repeat until all blooms are covered in the silica in layers.
Step 8:
Put the lid on and let the flowers sit in the silica for several weeks.
Step 9:
Remove the flowers from the sand and create something beautiful!
