This is our Sloth "SNOOZE "
This is a young male Two Toed Sloth waking up from sedation after a full examination, f***l parasite test, bloodwork, radiographs, and trimming of his claws. It is important to know that there are many conscientious sloth owners that have Sloths that were bred in captivity, thriving and reproducing. A facility does NOT have to be an AZA or ZAA accredited zoo to care for their sloths in an excellent manner with fantastic standards of care. Don’t let one awful situation of Sloths being snatched from the wild, as was the case with Sloth World, keep you from wanting to see these beautiful animals that were born in captivity and loved by their owners. If it weren’t for these Sloths that are being cared for and reproducing in captivity, the opportunity to see these marvelous creatures in real life without going to their native habitat, which many of us can not do, will be lost. As an exotic animal veterinarian I go to many facilities around the state of Florida and see the great care, beautiful habitats leading to the reproduction of sloths and they are not AZA or ZAA accredited facilities. Sloths born in captivity, as long as they are provided with good husbandry, are not stressed and do thrive. This owner wanted to make sure this Sloth, although seemingly healthy, was truly healthy by doing this full work up. This Sloth was found to be in excellent health and did great under sedation where it was not stressful to him. Sloths in captivity can have happy healthy lives when responsible owners care for them.
