2024 Nineteenth Century Charitable Association PLEASE find Nineteenth Century Charitable Association new page on Facebook. This one is no longer being used. Thank you. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT 2024.

We are gathered on the unceded land of the Ojibwe Chippewa, Potawatomi, and Odawa peoples. Join us in acknowledging the Ojibwe Chippewa, Potawatomi and Odawa communities, their elders past and future, as well as future generations. The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association also acknowledges that it was founded upon exclusions and erasure of many indigenous peoples, including those on whose lan

ds this institution is located. Colonialism is a continual process, and we must be mindful of how we participate. Acknowledging the land allows the opportunity to seek deeper understanding of our place within history. Read and accepted during the October 28, 2024, Membership Meeting.

✅ Another piece of Chicago history on its way to being protected.

First Immanuel Lutheran Church has received a preliminary recommendation to be designated a Chicago Landmark. Designed by Frederick Ahlschlager and completed in 1888, the Gothic Revival church is one of the city's oldest Lutheran congregations and an important part of Chicago's architectural and social history.

The church was among the first in Chicago to officially vote to integrate in the 1950s and this Sunday is celebrating the 60th anniversary of hosting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for a speech in 1966.
