Let’s talk about our charity partner for the year, East Cooper Community Outreach!

At our 2023 kick-off Luncheon, we heard from Don Squires, the Director of Development & Marketing at . He shared so much about their meaningful work with us…

Formed in 1989 as a result of community need after Hurricane Hugo devastated the area, ECCO has been assisting Charlestonians ever since.

From providing resources and programming of their own, to linking clients with other partners in the community, ECCO’s services are extensive. They offer food assistance, access to a clothing closet, financial aid, coaching and mentorship, and more—LOTS more. Did you know that they even have a free medical and dental clinic, and can provide prescription assistance to the uninsured? In the last year alone they provided their vast array of services to over 2,800 households!

And their impact is only continuing to grow as they recently surpassed their Capital Campaign goal for an expansion and remodel of their facility. (HUGE congrats to them! 🎉)

Want to be a difference-maker, too? Here are some ways you can get involved:
💰. Make a donation
🥫. Host a food drive
🛍️. Shop their wishlist
🗣️. Tell your friends and network!

🎟️ . And remember, when you purchase raffle tickets for our events, that money is donated to ECCO at the end of the year. So PLEASE don’t forget to include some tickets when you register for our upcoming meetings! (Or you can always bring exact change to the registration table and purchase them on-the-spot!)

We can’t wait to keep you in the loop about this incredible organization, all the work they’re doing, and how you can contribute throughout the year. What an honor it is to be partnered with them!

At the meeting, Justin, with , spoke to us about the rapidly changing landscape and infrastructure on the Charleston Peninsula, and what that means for Charlestonians and the preservation of our beautiful city. There’s much work to be done, folks!

CHN members were lucky enough to get to spend 2022 raising money for , and during our January luncheon, we were able to present them with a check for $8,000! Parker Toney, their Partnerships Director for the Carolinas, was able to join us and discuss the work that this money will help support. Here are the impressive stats he shared with us:

🌍 Globally, 3-5,000 people per day benefit from the clean water supply provided by Water Mission
🚰 They have provided 40 water systems that are currently functioning in Ukraine and have 25 more headed that way
🚚 They are creating mobile water treatment vehicles that bring clean, safe water to families in need and fleeing war zones

This is essential, lifesaving work and we are so lucky to have played a small part in the difference they’re making around the world!

As Parker said, “the goal is that Water Mission has no reason to exist.” If you want to assist in reaching that goal, sign up to join the Walk for Water on Saturday, March 25th!

For more information on the organization, Walk for Water, their relief efforts, and how you can get involved, visit their website at watermission.org

Thank you to all of our 2022 members who helped make this happen! And thank you to our friends at Water Mission out there saving the world!
