So last weekend, Butt Wrestling BBQ traveled to Chester for the Hog on the Hill competition.
The good news....Tracey's Peanut Butter Banana Cheesecake took 5th on Friday night for the Anything Butt competition., earning a call forward and $50.
That's it for the good news.
The bad (or disappointing) news is we finished 13th in Butts and 15th in Ribs. Which I thought were some of the best ribs I've ever made. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed in myself.
That's probably why I didn't post last week. I will mention that 9 of the top teams in the state were there. Still not an excuse if I want to be able to hang with the big boys.

This weekend we went to Williamston.
Totally different story. We walked away with 3rd place in Butts, $500, a 16+ score, and a hand-carved chainsaw made Pig Trophy.
Our ribs scored much better than last week with a 6th place finish.
Congratulations to John and S*M BBQ for 1st and Grand Champion. Gene Culbertson for Reserve Champion and Rusty and his Smoke Till Your Broke team for winning the Rib category.
That's it for the summer. We won't cook again till late August in Florence.
Time enough to practice and keep getting better.
See you all in August.

So, after a 6-month layoff from the SC BBQ circuit due to wrestling and travel, Butt Wrestling BBQ fired up the smoker for the 16th Annual Pickin' and Piggin' BBQ Cook-Off at Saluda Shoals in Irmo. I have judged this competition several times over the years and we cooked it for the 1st time last year earning the People's Choice Award. It is quickly becoming one of our favorites. The competition always brings in the top BBQ Teams in the state.

This year we battled the rain and 15 other top teams to a 9th place in Butts and a 10th place in Ribs. Not too bad after not cooking for 6 months. I was pleased with our boxes that we turned in.

I was extremely excited to hear our name get called for the Peoples' Choice Champion for the 2nd year in a row!!! Now if we can only get the judges to agree with the People, we'd be doing great. 🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations go out to George Ray and his Monkey Bottom Boys Team for 1st in Butts, and our great friends, Upstate Smokeshop, John and Paul for 2nd in Butts.
Mean Gene Culbertson and his Backwoods Bar-B-Que team, "Tesa" continues his mastery and takes 1st in the Ribs again. With Monkey Bottom Boys taking 2nd and also the overall Grand Championship title with the Upstate Boys grabbing the Reserve Grand Champion.

As always, it was a fun weekend despite Mother Nature. The Friday night dinner was a big hit, thank you Gene and George. We appreciate the invite.

Next week we are on to Chester for the Hog on the Hill Competition.
And the following week we will be cooking at Williamston for the Pig in the Park BBQ Festival and Cook-Off.
Come out and say hey.

I have decided to take pulled pork orders for the Super Bowl game if anyone is interested.
I will trim, inject, season, and smoke your Boston Butt for $40.

Butt Wrestling BBQ went to Camden this weekend for our last cook of the season. Camden placements are highly coveted because they give out the best trophies on the SC BBQ circuit. Due to their history in the Revolutionary War, 1st place is a replica musket rifle, complete with bayonet. 2nd-4th include a powder horn, a replica pistol, and a tricorn hat. All great trophies. With that being said, the top teams in the state converged on this site for one of those trophies. Needless to say, the competition was pretty intense. We cooked 40lbs of wings on Friday night, we made Honey Garlic wings. And then 12 butts for the public on Saturday.
The point difference from 1st to 10th place was .390 of a point.
Butt Wrestling BBQ came in 10th place out of 21 teams and scored our first 16+ in a while. We were extremely excited to place in the top 10 knowing how stiff the competition was.
Congratulations to Ken and Dawn from Blazing Bullets for taking 1st. And to David from Papa D's for the overall Grand Champion.
I must say one of the highlights of the weekend was having one of Tracey's former work friends, Oliver, drive over from Conway to surprise us. It has been over 25 years since we last saw him. It was so good seeing him again. Thanks Oliver, Tracey and I really appreciate the thoughtfulness.
My bbq goal this season was to reach the top 10 in the overall state standings. We made it!!! Number 10 as of this weekend. We will not be cooking the last 3 competitions due to wrestling season beginning.
Our next cook will be in March after wrestling season. I want to thank all our followers.
Butt Wrestling BBQ homemade sauce will be featured on CommuniGraphics live Facebook feed next month. Be sure to tune in to that. I'll give exact date and time as soon as I know.
Thanks you all.

Butt Wrestling BBQ traveled to Ridgeway to take part in the 27th annual Pig on the Ridge competition. I was a little shorthanded this weekend with my daughter and son-in-law not able to make the trip. So Tracey and I tackled Friday night's Anything But Pork competition with Salted Caramel Brownies. Absolutely delicious. We sold out in about an hour. Gave out over 150 samples.
We then tag teamed the 16 butts and got them trimmed, injected, and seasoned. 38 total teams with 20 pro and 18 Backyard guys.
The difference from our 6th place finish to first place was .28 of a point. We feel pretty good about our showing this weekend.
Again, made some new friends, saw a former student and his wife and baby, and had another great time hanging out with my best friend.
Ridgeway did another fantastic job of a great weekend. Here are a couple pictures.
Next week we will be in Camden for our next to last cook this year before wrestling season kicks off.

Traveled to Barnwell for the competition this weekend. Had high hopes seeing how we finished 3rd in Butts last year in only our 2nd ever cook. Well, that didn't happen this year. Finished 10th. A little disappointing but again, the competition is incredible at the last few events of the year. The top teams in the state are vying for those top few places. Every point matters. Again, met some new friends, sold 8 bottles of Butt Wrestling BBQ sauce, and had a lot of fun. Tracey and Kiana made Pumpkin Gobs for the Any Thing Butt competition Friday night. The crowd loved them.
The music was incredible. Overall great weekend. We will try again next weekend in Ridgeview for the Pig on the Ridge competition.

Jackson's 17th Hook and Cook was a fantastic event. Thanks to all who worked so tirelessly to put on a great time. Continue doing what you do next year, great job.
As per Butt Wrestling BBQ, we did ok, not great but good. We finished 6th in Ribs, a far cry from the week before where we were in last, so a lot of improvement this past weekend. Our Butts were just so-so this weekend. Finishing in 9th place wasn't terrible but not where we like to be.
Congratulations to Jeff Lee and his crew of CBF Que for taking 1st in Butts and Phillip Miles and his Tail-Gater Hater team with another 1st in Ribs.
Grand Champion once again goes to Gene & Tesa Culbertson of Backwoods Bar-B-Que. Congratulation also to Papa D's David Graham and Brian Roach from Men at Work getting a call too.
So on to Barnwell this Friday and Saturday. Hope to see you all there. Come on out and say hey.

WOW! What difference a year makes. This time last year, Butt Wrestling BBQ competed in their first competition at Jackson's Hook and Cook. One year later, we are back again hoping to improve on our 8th place finish last year. Butts are on the smoker, Ribs are seasoned and ready. Time to sit back and enjoy the great music tonight while hanging out with the family.
Come out to Jackson and enjoy the festivities.
Be sure and stop by the big blue trailer and say hey.
Results and more pictures tomorrow.
