Leaf springs are designed for load-bearing. The "secret" mentioned—the Torque Rod (often called a radius arm or traction bar)—is critical because of axle wrap.
The Problem: Under heavy acceleration or braking, the leaf springs want to twist into an "S" shape.
The Cost: If not controlled, this twisting snaps U-bolts, destroys driveshaft U-joints, and can even crack the transmission housing.
The Solution: The Torque Rod keeps the axle housing from rotating, saving the entire drivetrain from catastrophic failure.
