I’ll Never Measure Success by Money BECAUSE This Is What Fuels Me Instead…
Henneke Duistermaat’s post on Linkedin about intrinsic vs. extrinsic motivation stopped me mid-scroll a few days ago. It accurately described how I operate.
She said and I’m paraphrasing here:
“Intrinsic people are driven by creativity and results—not money. And they’re happier for it.”
This hit home 100%. As someone who’s built a nonprofit and volunteered my time to help entrepreneurs, I’ve never once woken up thinking, “How can I maximize my profits today?” Instead, I’d wake up thinking:
→ “Who’s struggling?”
→ “Whose potential can I unlock?”
→ “Who seriously wants to grow?”
→ “What problem can we solve together?”
→ “How will this ripple into our community?”
I know many reading this might be thinking “Well it’s better to be extrinsic and make more cheddar”, but how long will that keep you going?
Here’s the truth about intrinsic motivation:
- It might not fill your wallet, but It will fill your soul.
- It’s exhausting (you might have seen me online last night at 2 AM).
- It’s 1000% worth it, for me at least 😊 .
It means more to me to leave a legacy of empowered voices rather than an estate. Because when a student says, “You changed how I see my future,” or a small business owner now has a website that gives them visibility, that’s the currency that fuels me.
Now I want to know:
Are you intrinsic, extrinsic, or a mix? Let me know below—and tag someone who inspires you to prioritize purpose over profit. 💡

"A legacy is not measured by wealth, but by the difference made in other people’s lives."
A month ago, we asked multiple businesses for letters of support for our discretionary grant application. A past participant from our Business Success Hub told us, “You helped me so much. I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Those words resonated more than any revenue milestone ever could. 💜
This quote isn’t just for inspiration—it’s our way of saying:
→ Mentor someone who’s struggling with a new concept.
→ Invest your time, not just money, in your community.
→ Measure success by who you lift up, not just what you build.
→ Be part of something bigger than yourself.
Even small acts of kindness and servitude can have a ripple effect. That’s the legacy we want, thats the foundation of our work.
Now Tell Us: Who inspired your journey? Tag them below 👇—let’s celebrate the people who measure success in lives changed, not 💰.
