Ready doesn’t mean finished. Some of my favorite couples walked in with one saved photo and a feeling they couldn’t name yet.

That’s plenty. Give me that much and I’ll build you a night you couldn’t have drawn on your own. What I can’t do is want it for you. It has to start somewhere in you, even if it’s small, even if you’re not sure it’s any good yet. It’s good. Bring it.

Glad to be part of WIPA Richmond’s inaugural Board of Directors, serving as Director of Programs.

WIPA exists to raise the bar across our industry. Being on the team that builds a brand new chapter from scratch means helping set what education, standards, and community actually look like here in Virginia.

This is the part of the job that doesn’t make it into the final gallery. But it’s the reason the big vision gets handled the way it does.

The best feedback we got had nothing to do with the design.

It was the warm welcome and the chilled w**e waiting at arrival. S’mores over the fire, canapés, sliders and crispy fries when the night continued on, a soulful vocalist and an acoustic guitar.

A collection of small things, but they’re what people actually remember. Not just the tablescape, but the moment they were standing there with a drink in hand, mid conversation with someone they hadn’t seen since… who knows?!

That’s the part that’s easy to forget when you’re deep in the design of something. The room is just the container. The connection is the point of everything we create.

Seventy-five percent chance of thunderstorms. A humid Thursday in Madison County. And a lawn we’d been designing around for months.

We moved everything inside. Guest comfort leads, always. Then the sun dropped behind the vines anyway, and the thing we’d been chasing since the first mood board showed up on its own.

Vines at Dusk was about time. Courtney Drake asked a room full of us a question most of us avoid. Not what you charge per hour, but what that hour actually costs you. And my job was to make the room say it before she did. Smokebush going soft at the edges. Dusty rose and sage past their peak on purpose. A W embroidered into linen by hand, one napkin at a time. Cornflower blue and terracotta holding it together.

That’s the part I care about most. Hospitality and design aren’t two departments. What a room looks like and what it feels like to stand in it are the same decision, and I don’t trade one for the other.

UNTAMED: the 2nd Annual NACE Hampton Roads Gala came together as a real partnership. Savannah from Curated Events Chesapeake and I split the space into distinct zones instead of one big open floor, and it changed how people moved through the night. People posted up in the lounge area for an hour. Others camped at their seats the whole time. Both were right.

That was the point of the theme. UNTAMED isn’t about chaos, it’s about industry professionals building something bold without checking themselves first. This room was our answer to that.

Grateful to have been part of the committee, and even more grateful for the collaborators who make nights like this possible.

Five weddings, five completely different couples, five visions that had nothing in common except one thing: they knew exactly what they wanted, and they weren’t going to shrink it to fit someone else’s idea of tasteful.

That’s who I build for. Not the couple looking for the safest version of a wedding. The couple who’s been saving images for two years, who already knows their aesthetic, who wants abundance with intention instead of restraint disguised as elegance.

None of these weddings look alike, and that’s the point. My job was never to hand people a signature look and repeat it. It’s to listen to what’s actually in front of me and build toward it, fully, every time.

If your vision doesn’t look like anyone else’s, good. That’s exactly who OTW is for.

At my own wedding, I broke a few of the summer wedding “rules.”

Velvet table linens instead of light and airy. Deep, moody tones instead of pastel. Every choice came down to one question: does this feel like us? Not, does this feel like June?

That’s really the whole philosophy behind how I plan. A wedding doesn’t have to follow etiquette. It just has to speak to the couple.

If your vision doesn’t match what a “summer wedding” is supposed to be, that’s not a conflict to resolve. It just means you already know what you want.
