As photographers, homeowners, and parents, we know firsthand the potential devastating loss of family photos from a disaster such as Hurricane Ida. But helping to restore the photos is a life-altering process, not just for the victims, but for us as well. Kathy and I were part of the team that copied photos following Hurricane Katrina (that’s us on the left in this screen grab), and I’ll never forget the faces of dozens of people in line clutching their moldy, ruined photos in hopes we could salvage them. It was heartbreaking to see, but it was also one of the most rewarding experiences in our lives to be part of the Operation Photo Rescue team that performed miracles. Although NPR is a photo booth rental company, we will be there again with OPR to help salvage photos ruined by Ida. Details are still being finalized on when and where we will set up camp.
