As the Nation buries Shimon Peres today, we wanted to share the below letter received from members of Israel 21C.. He loved his HOME "Israel" as we do and he will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.

Dear friend,

When Shimon Peres died yesterday, a light went out for us here at ISRAEL21c. Perhaps more than any other statesman, Peres embodied what we do. Throughout his long and accomplished life, he celebrated Israel, molding its progress and development, and searching always for the best and the brightest future for this fledgling country.

His pursuit of peace, his vision and drive to turn Israel into a technological leader, and his clear joy in the country’s many profound accomplishments, have been a beacon to us in our mission to share the best and most beautiful parts of Israeli life with the world.

“All my life I have worked to ensure that Israel’s future is based on science and technology as well as on an unwavering moral commitment,” Peres said when he laid the cornerstone of the Israeli Innovation Center in July. “They called me a dreamer. But today, when I look at Israel, we all can see clearly that the greater the dream, the more spectacular the results.”

At ISRAEL21c we will continue to share his dream; in our words, our photographs, our videos, and our exhibitions. We will continue to share Israel’s spectacular accomplishments with people in every corner of the globe, telling the story of how this tiny country, which Peres helped shape and guide for so many years, offers so much of value to our entire world.

May his memory be a blessing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you that lost loved ones 15 years ago today on the deadliest terror attack on American soil. "May there be abundant peace from heaven, May the one who creates harmony on high bring peace to us all," and may their soul rest in peace.

Ritual paraphernalia and luxuries, like a bathtub, attest that the 2000-year old house being dug up belonged to a member of the ruling class.

Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport – The safest airport in the world

So glad this has finally come out on all of the news stations.
For those of you that have flown in and out of the airport did you not feel safe and relaxed?

Today, CNN reported that experts from more than 40 countries will arrive at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport to learn just how it became the safest airport in the world. Preliminary examinations of every passenger, plane and/or staff member much before their arrival to Israel is just one example.

Today was Israel’s Holocaust Memorial Day in memory of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust as part of the worst genocide in human history. There were series of events marking this day throughout the country starting with a siren at 10:00am, which will lasts two minutes. and when the sirens sound the whole country comes to a standstill - no matter where they are people, cars, trucks... they all pay their respect and remember the lives of those that are not with us.
Immediately after the siren, at 10:02am, there was a wreath-laying ceremony at the foot of the memorial to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Followed by the reading to the public of all of the names of the Holocaust victims The reading, which is titled “Every person has a name,” takes place in the Hall of the Remembrance.
LET US NOT FORGET SO IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
It is our duty as citizens of the world to make sure all lives matter.

PURIM - A complete explanation of the holiday we celebrate starting tonight would take pages and pages of explanation, so the very sweet and short behind it is: Purim commemorates the time when the Jewish people living in Persia (modern day IRAN) were saved from extermination 2000 years ago by the courage of a young Jewish woman called Esther who becomes Queen to King Xerxes of Persia and through her bravery was able to thwart an attempt to slaughter all of the Jews. There are heroes and villains and the story is told in the Book of Esther – known as the Megillah – meaning scroll – it would be enlightening to read.
It is one of the most entertaining of the Jewish holidays and is celebrated by children and adults alike – it could be compared to Mardi Gras as there are carnivals, plays, and children dress up in customs such as these that my granddaughters chose for this year - one is an owl and the other a unicorn (both lovingly hand made by my daughter) They will now celebrate for the next four days wearing it every chance they have.:)

Israel in My Heart

Hatikva - The Hope - The National Anthem of Israel - always makes me cry - longing for peace. The words written in 1886 and still today we have the Hope.
Below I included the translation ( though it does not quite do it justice, somehow I feel the Hebrew words deep in meaning are a bit lost in this translation) And so I have included the Hebrew version if you wish to learn it.

As long as the Jewish spirit is yearning deep in the heart,
With eyes turned toward the East, looking toward Zion,
Then our hope - the two-thousand-year-old hope - will not be lost:
To be a free people in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem

SARONA CENTER - An open air commercial center. It was a German Templar colony in Tel Aviv one of the earliest villages established by the Europeans in Ottoman Palestine. Read the history on Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarona . The place located in the heart of the city with buildings dating up to more than 140 years ,now restored to the most amazing center filled of shops, specialty restaurants and coffee boutiques, and the most outstanding Food Market/Food Court I have ever seen. One could never go hungry. No matter what one has a taste for it is found there. It is culinary heaven. I believe that I walked around there with wow and ohhhs like a childs first visit to Disney. These are just a few of the pictures. So let it be written let it be done " Israel does have it all".

Light Up the Night Fountainheads Hanukkah

Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, recalls the victory - more than 2100 years ago - of a militarily weak but spiritually strong Jewish people over the mighty forces of a ruthless enemy that had overrun the Holy Land, threatening to engulf the land and its people in darkness. The miraculous victory- culminating with the dedication of the Sanctuary in Jerusalem and the rekindling of the Menorah - (the Hebrew word for "lamp") which had been desecrated and extinguished by the enemy - has been celebrated annually ever since during these eight days of Chanukah. Lighting the Menorah , is the symbol of the triumph of freedom over oppression, of spirit over matter, of light over darkness. .... message based on the teaching of the Rebbe.
When lighting the menorah this Chanukah we can be grateful for the private miracles woven into every part f our natural lives !
