The biggest impediment to enjoying your wedding is stress. With so many moving parts (rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, flowers, transportation, and more), you want to put people in place to help provide a wonderful, moment-of-a-lifetime experience. Although some people have a friend or relative officiate (which is not a bad idea in some cases), every wedding planner I have ever worked with values a professional officiant and tends to greet me with, “I’m so glad you’re here.” Why?
They don’t have to tell the officiant where and how to stand, to make sure the rings and vow books are present, and that any ceremony ritual is properly set up. They don’t have to wonder if the officiant partied too hard the night before at the rehearsal dinner or might ad-lib the ceremony to include humorous stories about the groom's past girlfriends. They don’t have to worry about an officiant with stage fright, one who decides to abandon the ceremony script and just “wing it” or an officiant whose ceremony lasts less than a minute. They don’t have to remind them to show up early and check in with the DJ, photographer, videographer, and coordinator to make sure everyone is on the same page. They don’t have to remind the officiant to have the witnesses sign the license (and do it right) and then mail in the license.
Most couples hire professional planners, photographers, DJs, and videographers. It’s because you know you have one chance to get everything right, and if something doesn’t go to plan, you have a team of pros (including the officiant) to make the proper adjustments
