With EHV-1 concerns in Washington state we are asking riders to follow good equine safety protocols and precautionary measures if you are attending our show or have been traveling to the east side of WA. All riders, rider’s parents/guardians, family friends or visitors should take a moment to read up on EHV-1 and the seriousness of this illness. The attached link will provide more information on EHV-1 but please keep the below safety guidelines in mind when attending our show: https://agr.wa.gov/about-wsda/blog-posts?article=40404
- do not share equipment or tack - please bring your own stall cleaning supplies
- avoid nose-to-nose contact between horses
- do not put a hose or water spigot into buckets
- treat this as any other flu or respiratory illness in humans or equines
- If your horse or a horse from your facility has been to the Spokane area within the past 2 weeks, please stay home
- If your horse has exhibited any symptoms or signs of illness, please stay home
It is vital for horse owners to remain vigilant and cooperative in implementing these protocols to prevent further outbreaks within the equestrian community.
WSDA urges strict biosecurity to prevent the spread of Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) after two horses die in Spokane County.
