Today is Winter Break! We may even get a little dusting of snow. ❄️ Get out of the house and gather around bonfires and try out or learn about some winter hobbies.

This coming Saturday, 2/28/26 is Winter Break, a free community festival for boosting your mood. Ditch hibernation. We'll have many bonfires roaring, but also fun cold weather stuff, like bird watching, sled dog petting, fat tire biking, lawn games (Kubb!), and much more. Plus there are warm things to do indoors, like candle-making demos, tea tasting, weaving, documentary movies, and fireside poetry.

Milwaukee winters just need an attitude adjustment! Dressing well for the weather makes the difference between being comfortable or miserable all season. All you winter newbs: Google ‘layering system’ - base layers, mid layers, a shell layer. There is a Swedish mantra “There’s no bad weather, there’s only bad clothes.” Dress yourself well for the conditions and you’ll be fine to ditch hibernation. Ice skating date at the was a nice way to flex different muscles. Open to public skating M-Sun and skate rentals inside.

Being outside in the winter for an extended period of time means a very specific dressing strategy. Microspikes because f**k ice.

Came across these first-time cold dippers, all from a tropical area - so you know that it’s not only about cold hardiness. They had such a great vibe I had to stop and chat. They invited me to come cold dip with them. Just let me know when!
Any advice for newbies, I asked. They said, “Just try it! You will love it!”
