It’s Write Words Wednesday! It’s been a couple of weeks since the world lost one of the best humans ever, President Jimmy Carter. It was so heartwarming to see the outpouring of love, respect and admiration that people all around the world had for this gentle warrior. The theme that seemed to resonate most was his truthfulness and his kindness towards others. So I started to ask myself, what will my legacy be? What words would come to people’s minds when they thought of me? It’s a harrowing feeling, yet humbling at the same time. We all can only hope that we will be remembered fondly for our kindness in word and deed. It should be our prayer that people will remember us with joy in their hearts and minds for how we made them feel. If you died today, what would people think when they remember you? What mark have you made on the lives of the people you know? As long as we have breath, we can impact our legacy. We can start by showing kindness to those who may not reciprocate it. Be kind anyway! It matters not only for you, but to the recipient as well. So, you know what to do next. Go forward and change someone’s mind. There is a saying that you can “kill them with kindness”. Go ahead, put a positive spin on your legacy. Kindness matters always and the impact will spark beautiful memories of you that will last a lifetime! 🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! If I am being totally honest, I can’t remember a time in my life where there was such discourse, anxiousness and pure mental strife everywhere. There is an absence of civility, compassion and simple humanity. The local TV stations fill the airwaves with doom and gloom from early morning until prime time programming in late evening! Reporting good news has become rare because news stations want to remain relevant. Therefore the competition of getting the doom and gloom out “first” is real and they want the bragging rights to say “you heard it here first“! This only adds more toxicity to an already toxic environment and the cycle continues. Adding doses of civility, joy and kindness in our daily lives is up to us. Simple acts of kindness towards each other can have a defining and lasting impact on both our emotional and mental well being. It is up to us to balance the scales and turn up the volume of joy everyday. So you know what to do next. Let’s be intentional to heap kindness into the lives of those around us. We already know the value and the benefits to the giver and recipient of kindness! So, go on and get busy spreading kindness everywhere. Tidings of great joy should not be just reserved for Christmas, but for everyday!✨

It’s Write Words Wednesday! The phrase “you got more than you bargained for” usually has a negative connotation attached to it. Usually something bad or funny happens as a result of an action or in addition to the action; and you will often hear this phrase tied to the particular outcome. The phrase “more than you bargained for” is also the perfect phrase to apply to acts of kindness. If you think about it, a simple, single act of kindness usually doesn’t end there. There are heartfelt thanks and feelings of joy that spark other random acts of kindness. Sharing news of acts of kindness or reading about them brings happiness and smiles even to those who only hear about it. Just imagining the joy that others felt brings us joy. Sharing in the happiness of others and feeling happiness as a result is a basic human instinct. Kindness naturally does that. It has a ripple effect that creates trails of joy that spring from one person to another even if they were not intimately involved. This brings to mind a quote by the Dalai Lama “Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” Kindness is a true example of “getting more than you bargained for”, and it’s such a beautiful thing. So you know what to do next. Share a little kindness within your circle and watch for the ripple effect. It may possibly boomerang right back to you! 🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! I don’t know about you, but it seems like I’m having a lot of “what’s it all for” moments lately. We all seem to be so very disconnected; and we seem to have lost that loving feeling for our brother. This disconnect has true consequences in how and what we think and feel. Even in this season of peace and goodwill, there is an air of sadness and fear. It is becoming clearer every day that we must protect our mental health. Things that happen externally have an impact on us internally. It is imperative that we guard our thoughts and really be intentional about it. We must also be intentional in checking on our neighbors. The world really could use a big dose of kindness right now. My prayer for all of us this holiday season is that we can find true joy. I pray also, that the words in Stevie Wonder’s song, Someday at Christmas, will soon ring true. So you know what to do next! Guard your thoughts daily and push negatively aside whenever it rears its ugly head. Reach out and show a little kindness to others because we truly are our brother’s keeper. Kindness matters now more than we know. The reward in smiles alone is definitely worth the effort!🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! Have you ever paused to think about the very moment you’re in? Our lives are so busy and moments are fleeting. Every moment is jam packed with things to do or recurring thoughts about things we have to do. I have learned that if I change my attitude from “I have so much to do”, to “I am so grateful to be able to do all the things I need to do”, my stress level dissolves. It is important to grab moments each day and be grateful in them. Just that small shift in our mindset helps. We all live very busy lives and it’s important for us to take moments to rest and relax. Learning to “live” in the moment increases our gratitude for the moments. It is definitely a “win win” as they say. Because when we stop to be grateful in the moment, we are also restoring our mind and body in that very moment. As we embark on this busy upcoming holiday season, you know what to do next. Let’s take gratitude breaks when we feel overwhelmed and be grateful for the calmness that floods our being. Gratitude bequeaths restoration. Therefore, we know that the residual of restoration is joy. We also know that when we feel joy, kindness is waiting in the wings and is ready to be served. So let’s be intentional with our gratitude moments and serve up a little kindness. It’s the perfect antidote!🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! I was clearing out old papers and came across this beautiful note from one of my calligraphy friends. Later that same day I came across a post about fake friends. Both messages about friends yielded two very different emotions. The first one brought instant joy as the memories of receiving this in the mail flooded back. The post about fake friends brought emotions of sadness and feelings of deceit. There is nothing like a true friendship. The bond is truly unbreakable. Yet, there is nothing other than death, that compares to being deceived by someone you considered to be a friend. The hurt can run so deep. It brings to mind the Bible story of Judas who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. When you betray a friend, it can create a wound that won’t be easily healed. It really is a mourning of lost trust and integrity. It is a true example of our actions speaking louder than our words. The best thing we can do is to bow out with grace and kindness, instead of continuing to deceive someone who considers us a friend. It is best to just stop the bleeding so there is at least some resemblance of dignity left. If you have said or done something that you know hurts someone that you call friend, then you know what to do next. Admit that you failed them, even if you only admit it to yourself. Stand in your truth, then silently, set them free with the respect, and kindness that you know they so deserve. Truth will always triumph, and love will always win!🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! I love music and I usually get stuck humming the last song I heard. Today, that song is “I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends”. This song is a reminder of the importance of friendship. Friends truly are the family that we get to choose ourselves. They often understand us better than our family. Our Friends enhance our lives in so many ways. They are comforters when we’re sad, extra hands when we need them, therapists when we need to talk through things, sounding boards when we just want to vent and voices of reason when we are doubtful. They are our ultimate cheerleaders when we need a boost in our spirit. Friends give us the space we need to be our best selves. To be called “friend” is one of the highest honors of our lives. It is one of the purest compliments that we can receive. Friendships are relationships based on love, trust and honesty. Kindness, however, always leads the way. A kind spirit can lead to beautiful, lasting, life changing friendships. We never know where a kind word or deed will lead us. But if we are rewarded with a friendship, then the return on our investment is priceless. It is always time to celebrate the sacred entity of friendship and everyday really is friend’s day. So you know what to do next. If you are blessed to be called “friend” or if you have special friends in your life, reach out and tell them how much their friendship means to you. They may already know it, but it’s still worth repeating!🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! Today, the word “connected” is echoing in my mind. As I write today, my internet connection is down. So this message is going no where because at this moment, I am not connected to you. This also brings to my mind a childhood song about this bone being connected to that bone, and the connect the dots game where drawing the lines between the dots formed a complete picture. Today we are so disconnected from each other in so many ways. There are cultural, social, racial, class, and religious divides that disconnect us. It all seems overwhelming and insurmountable. Most of us turn inward and try to distance ourselves from it all and just pray that things will get better. But, we are all connected little dots in one big universe. It will never be a complete and beautiful picture, if we cross our arms instead of using our arms to reach out and become the lines in the global connect the dots picture. We are really all in this together. Our brother’s well being has to matter to each of us as much as our own well being. So, you know what to do next. Let’s reach across the divides and connect with each other. I’m sure by now, that you see that kindness really is key to connecting the dots between us. All that is good and perfect comes from above (James 1:17) and all things begin with kindness. Simple kindness extended between us connects the dots to our beautiful world. If we just only reach! 🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! It took me many years to finally understand the saying “silence is golden”. Since then I have learned that silence truly is golden in so many ways. A quiet mind births a peaceful spirit, which in turn sparks joy. Some people seek silence for the renewal of mind, body and spirit. Silence provides a “reset” and a space for introspection. It provides us moments to lower the volume of noise around us. Thus, we reap the benefits of good mental health and that lends itself further to our physical health. A strong mind coupled with a strong body leads to overall happiness which ultimately influences our spiritual growth. In our moments of silence, we often focus on the grace of God in our lives with a spirit of gratitude. This spirit of gratitude is often the avenue to kindness and it all begins in the silence. So, you know what to do next. Let us learn to listen to the silence. There in the silence we will find golden moments to reflect outwardly in kindness all the benefits of stillness. So go, be still and know that God is truly there to usher you forward! 🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! There is a Bible verse, John 8:32, that states “and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free”. There is a true sense of peace that comes over us when we learn “truths” about anything, no matter how small. For instance, if we’re lost in a new city, and we find directions to the locations that matter most to us, these become our truths. Learning the directions took away the anxiety that usually comes with “unknowns”. In order for us to be free of anxiety in all aspects of our lives, we must seek truth. It is important, in our current climate of hatred and unrest, that we seek the truth in all things through a filter of kindness. The truth coupled with kindness is an unbeatable combination. Kindness and truth together are true anxiety slayers. Calmness and peace reign over unrest, worry and strife, wherever truth and kindness exist. So , you know what to do next. Let us spread kindness and truth in both our words and our deeds. Seek and speak the truth in ALL things, and it will make you free! 🩵

It’s Write Words Wednesday! Our words are so impactful! It has been proven that our words can cut like a knife, heal a broken heart or influence the way someone thinks. We have a huge responsibility and what we say really matters. We must always speak with the knowledge that our words can literally influence the mindset of those who hear us. So whether you choose to speak truth or spread lies, you are responsible for the lives you touch with your very words. Our very intentions dictate the words that we choose to speak. So you know what to do next. Let’s go and speak peace where there is war, love where there is hatred, and kindness where there is none!
