Remember our GameStop gift card promo we ran for Lil Angel? We raised over $300. In honor of Lil Angel who passed away from pediatric cancer, this promo is to honor him….
ANY $25 Xbox, GameStop or Visa gift card donation will be rewarded with a $50 gift certificate off your next rental. (If you are not renting in September but would like to still donate, we will take donations until September 30.)
This September, your gift cards are going to Devin Newcombe, a son of a close family friend.
On January 5th, Devin Newcombe was shot on the left side of his head. Devin had emergency craniotomy surgery, which gave him his best chance at surviving the injury. Fortunately, the bullet did not hit any major organs in the brain, but fragments of the bullet are still lodged in his head. The injury impacted his right side and his cognitive thinking and speech. Devin spent 5 weeks in the hospital, while 3 was spent in ICU. After being released from the hospital he spent another 2 weeks in a rehabilitation hospital.
On Friday, February 24th Devin was released from the rehabilitation hospital to return home. Devin’s recovery has been miraculous, but he still has a long road ahead of him. He continues to get therapy for his Speech and right hand. He continues to be in high spirits and confident that he will make a full recovery.
Devin is known to be a social butterfly and has been surrounded and supported by friends and family this entire time. Prior to the incident Devin loved to play basketball and video games. He was on his high school basketball team and played for different travel and AAU basketball programs during the summer months. The injury has affected his ability to do both things. With his right hand not having the flexibility to move he can’t play the video game just yet. He is a dominant lefty and has started to go back to playing basketball but has been restricted from playing competitive for at least one year.
Devin will be starting his junior year in high school this fall. We are hopeful that he will continue to make progress over the summer to being as close to his old self as possible. He is still looking forward to playing basketball and attending college to double major in Gaming and History.
