A pillar in the history, development, and growth of Texas Festivals & Events Association, we are saddened to share the news of the passing of Joe Vera, City of McAllen Assistant City Manager and Elected Past Chair/Senior Advisor on the TFEA Board of Directors. He will be missed by many, and we will continue to honor the legacy he leaves behind.

🕊️ With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life and legacy of Assistant City Manager Joe Vera, who passed away earlier today.

Joe was a true visionary whose passion and dedication helped transform McAllen into a vibrant cultural destination. From the world-renowned McAllen Holiday Parade to his leadership across parks, libraries, and public events, Joe’s impact was felt not only in our city but across the entire Rio Grande Valley.

An Eagle Scout, community servant, Hall of Fame inductee and current IFEA World Board Chair, Joe brought joy, pride, and purpose to everything he touched. His favorite quote, “The noblest art of all is making others happy,” perfectly captured his spirit.

As we reflect on the events shaped by Joe’s vision, we remember and will honor the incredible legacy he leaves behind . Thank you, Joe, for making McAllen brighter, bolder, and better. 💙

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our former Executive Director, Kay Wolf. Kay suffered a major stroke on Thursday and passed away Saturday morning.

Kay was a founding member of the Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA) and a compassionate leader who served as Executive Director for over nine years before retiring in December. Her passion, vision, and commitment helped shape our organization into what it is today. Beyond her leadership, Kay was a cherished friend to many of our members, always offering guidance, support, and a warm smile. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

As we remember Kay, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and loved ones. Her legacy of leadership and friendship will always be a part of our association.

Details regarding services and ways to honor Kay’s memory will be shared as they become available.

In a field as fast-paced and demanding as Events, the toll on mental health is often underestimated. With increasing demands, long hours, and the pervasive pressure to deliver perfection, it’s no wonder that burnout and stress have become critical issues in the industry.

This session, facilitated by two licensed mental health professionals, will use the True Colors framework to explore temperament, interpersonal connection, and how it can impact how we manage stress.
