Food Health Tip for Today, July 28, 2014
Watch out for artificial sweeteners and preservatives. They are all chemicals and have side effects. See warning below and try to always eat fresh food ingredients in all of your food items.
As if the evidence against artificial sweeteners wasn't bad enough, new research just discovered that one particular artificial sweetener KILLS the healthy probiotics in your gut, where 80% of your immune system lives.

Are you using this artificial, chemical sweetener?

==> This FAKE sweetener kills healthy probiotics in your gut

Food News – July 26, 2014
Fast food prices will rise to pay decent wage to workers – It’s about time!

Fast food workers vow civil disobedience
Tammy Webber, The Associated Press11:50 p.m. EDT July 26, 2014
VILLA PARK, Illinois (AP) — Fast food workers from across the U.S. voted Saturday to escalate their efforts for $15-an-hour pay and union membership by using nonviolent civil disobedience, comparing their campaign to the civil rights movement.
More than 1,300 workers gathered in suburban Chicago to discuss the future of a campaign that has spread to dozens of cities in less than two years. Wearing T-shirts that said "Fight for $15" and "We Are Worth More," the workers cheered loudly and said they would win if they stuck together.

Recipe For Today: Old South Peach Cobbler
This recipe passed down by Natalie Dupree was probably served at the original Tara in the 1800’s. I am topping it with Caramel Frozen Yogurt.
Take a 9x13 baking dish and melt ½ c butter (1 stick) in 350 degree oven
Mix together in a bowl the following to form a batter:
1 cup White Lilly flour or any Southern flour
1 ½ Tsp. baking powder
½ Tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
Pour batter in hot pan with melted butter and distribute evenly. Cover with 2 cups or more peeled, sliced peaches. I used 4 cups.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 mins. or until cobbler comes over peaches and is brown.

Food Tip of Today:
Eat fresh seafood: It’s high in protein, sustainable and delicious!
Where Can I Buy Louisianna Seafood:
Louisiana seafood is known around the world for taste, quality and variety. When you enjoy seafood at home or in a restaurant, chances are excellent that it’s from Louisiana. Nearly 1/3 of the domestic seafood consumed in the contiguous United States comes fresh from our waters. Louisiana is the number one provider of shrimp, oysters, crab, crawfish and alligator production in the USA and we’re a close second in the harvest of fin fish.

Today’s Food Tip: Buy fresh food whenever you can and beware of chemicals in packaged food items:
Study: 175 Hazardous Chemicals Used in Food Contact PackagingBY NEWS DESK | JULY 10, 2014
According to a new study by the Food Packaging Forum, 175 chemicals with known hazardous properties are legally used in the production of food contact packaging in Europe and the U.S. Food packaging and other materials coming in contact with food (e.g. foils, cans, pans, storage containers) continuously release mixtures of synthetic substances into food at low levels, which are then ingested by the consumer on a daily basis. Many of the 175...

A Slice of Life, a taste of the world! Atlanta Catering Company

Kitchen Tips: Each week I will share with you one or more tips to get your kitchen organized, provide ideas to save money on food or quick time saving recipes. Tune in often to get these tips.

Tip 1: Kitchen Organization -Counter-top space. You cannot have too much counter space, so maximize what you have. Any item on your counter that is not used every day, needs to be kept in a drawer or cupboard and in the same space so you can grab it quickly. Initially, put a small tape label on the kitchen drawer or cupboard door so you can see where the appliance, canister, etc. is. I have learned to store and quickly find - toaster or convection oven, food processor or electric mixer. Try what works for you, you will be amazed how much more space you now have!

Tip 2: Saving soap scrubber. I know you want to save that soaped scrubber you just took out of the box and used for a minute. Now you can without it sitting on the counter rusting up. Wrap the used scrubber in a sheet of paper towel and return it to the opened box of new scrubbers. It will be on top when you need to scrub again!
