Am I right to guess we’ve all spent more time indoors this year than we ever imagined we would? It’s allowed (forced?) me to do a bit of self-reflection and, of course, working in events I’ve had to pivot my business as well.

I’ve realized during this time that I make fantastic company! 🙂 But it’s also helped me become a better businessperson because it made me realize how I can better focus my talents and best add value to my clients. It’s been thrilling to realize that what I love - the tech associated with virtual events - is a pain point for a lot of my audience. So I’m thankful that I get to help with that.

What has being holed up for months revealed for you?

The cart is open!

I'm so excited to announce the launch of Profitable Virtual Event Planning - my new course on building, hosting and profiting from virtual events.

You know events are the most effective way to create greater impact and income but the fear of tech, or not filling your event, or just "all the things" is holding you back.

Don't miss the opportunity to add virtual events to your business!

The cart is only open through Thursday, July 23rd at 11:59pm ET. And if you sign up TODAY you'll get a bonus 30-minute 1:1 coaching call with me.

I'm inviting a small group of Beta testers to go through the course the first time it's offered for almost half the investment. But there's a catch... space will be limited to only 10 founding members.

So sign up today! profitablevirtualeventplanning.com

Another great podcast episode from @jess_lorimer!

@helenpackham dropped some major knowledge on speaking and storytelling. The best takeaway - for the most effective communications, only 10% of your social media posts should be educational. 🤯

The others should be inspirational (20%) and connection (70%).

Wanting to go virtual with your event? Here's a list of some tech that will make it easier.

And you don't need top of the line cameras and microphones - just your phone will work. People just want to connect!

Zoom - for live calls, meetings, workshops, etc. And you can record to use this as a training later.

YouTube/Facebook - record video trainings or go live. Put it in a private group on FB so you can accept payment or as an unlisted video on YT.

Loom - Chrome extension where you can record your screen and send the link to your audience. You can record just your screen, screen and camera, or just camera.

Google Drive - upload workbooks and other documents to share

Voxer - walkie/talkie type app where you can share voice messages

Do you have any other tech suggestions that you use?

I'm conducting some market research to improve my content and offers and would LOVE if any coaches or consultants out there - who have hosted their own event or are thinking about it - would take my 5-minute survey.

I would greatly appreciate it!!

13 Creative Icebreakers to Jumpstart Attendee Networking

Some good ideas in this article for getting the networking started at events. I really like the ones that highlight non-business related information so that attendees can get to know one another on a more personal level. Also a great one for those new to your event - printing larger images of their badges and having veterans pick one and go find that person. A great way to make newcomers , especially introverts, feel included!

Oh my gosh - I can’t believe some of these traveler complaints!

Complaints about long flight delays and sub-standard accommodation are absolutely justified but some travellers are just impossible to please. From tourists complaining about too much sand on the beach to those blaming hotels for their pregnancies, we count down some of the most ridiculous complaint...

Menu 2020: A Catering Forecast for the New Year

Are you ready for meat-less meals at events next year?

Special Events Magazine interviewed several caterers who highlighted the trend toward plant-based menus.

Of course, the best plan is to look at your attendees and determine what's important to them, as opposed to just trying a new trend. But there are a lot of people moving toward vegan and vegetarian diets for various reasons so get to know your attendees!

It's that time of year with Hallmark holiday movies already in rotation and Christmas music stations on Sirius XM!

What's your favorite holiday movie?

Mine would have to be Family Stone. Gets me every time!

About Us

An event isn’t just the live experience that your guests show up to for a few hours or days. It’s months of managing expectations, countless details, and possibly your company’s reputation. It can be very overwhelming!

Some people were made for it, some people learn to love it, and some people need to outsource it.

I was made for it!

Years back, when I worked in a marketing department, I was thrown into event planning because no one else at the company owned it, and it needed to be done. Luckily, I found out that I thrived in those details and really enjoyed creating beautiful experiences for others.

Now, with Violet Hill Events, I use my knowledge and experience to help entrepreneurs and small to mid-size businesses get rid of the overwhelm and create profitable, memorable events!

We can help as much as you need, from a step-by-step roadmap to full service event planning.

Contact us at [email protected] to learn more about our meeting and event support options. To your success,
