Here are 5 quick tips while planning for your portrait session either for yourself or for your business/brand:

• Keep your outfit neutral. This will allow you to display your portraits in any room of your home. And for your business, this will allow you flexibility on where you can utilize the images.

• Keep your environment simple and clean to keep the focus on you.

• Shooting at a location downtown, a café for example, is a great idea but don’t forget about your own home. All we need really is good window light and capturing you in your home environment – there really is no other place you should feel as relaxed and comfortable at. So why not use it instead?!

• Always include something or someone that means something to you. This way, when you look at the images they will spark joy in your heart. And if you are using them for your business they will show your clients a glimpse into who you are and the things that matter to you. Connecting on an emotional level with your clients/followers is very important and will help you grow organically.

• Have fun. Always. Try not to stress over the planning or the execution process. If at any time you feel stress or anxiety – reach out to your photographer. We will help you calm any of those stressors or fears and work on finding solutions with you!

I hope you will enjoy your weekend my friends!

Virtual Portrait Sessions: FaceTime edition - BRC Photography

Something that has been helping me adapt to these strange times: virtual portrait sessions. Or FaceTime sessions, as I like to call them.

Have you heard of the term yet?

If you haven't or want to know my take on them...head on over to the blog where I share my thoughts and experiences. Plus of course, some beautiful content from some of my virtual sessions for you to look at.

And then...let's have a conversation about it. Would you consider booking a virtual session? Yes? No? I'd love to hear your take on this. 🗣

Virtual portrait sessions, or as I like to call them: FaceTime sessions, are the perfect way to be creative & socialize while practicing social distancing.

As I reflect on this weekend, I am filled with love, gratitude, and hope.

I am blessed to have all 4 of my children with me. While my dogs drive me bonkers at time, those two are a blessing of comfort as well.

I officially graduated from the @byupathwayworldwide program and will continue on to pursue my bachelors in business later this month through @byuidaho. Completing multiple certificates along the way, starting out with #socialmediamarketing.

I am also “landlocked” so to speak, not allowed to go out and shoot currently, but am finding other ways to grow my business and shift my focus. (#fineartprints are in the making on a new @etsy shop.)

Abundance can come in many ways and I am open to any and all of it to flow into my life.

Through it all, I know my Savior loves me and cheers for me the loudest. For His love, atoning sacrifice, unwavering commitment and beautiful example — I am filled with gratitude.🧡

You guys…I am so happy to say that I managed to put in the extra hours to sort through YEARS (over a decade) worth of hard drives to hand pick images for sale. Fine art prints. This will include digital as well as analog images. Abstracts, landscapes and florals. (I love florals!) Also some animalistic ones. I’ve not added dogs but if there is enough interest…I’ll consider adding those as well. 😜

If you remember my last post, I mentioned that I am considering opening up a fine art print shop. And I’m excited for following through on that idea and promise to myself. I’m still working out the kinks. Trying to gauge selling these digital downloads via my website shop or @etsy (I’m leaning towards the latter.)

And yes, these will be instant digital downloads so you can print the images and frame them to the size that best fits your décor needs. They are only available for personal usage and may NOT be used for commercial purpose. (So you can’t sell the files, products made using the files or use them on your commercial websites and profiles!) They are to bring beauty to your personal space. In your home, your office…or as a digital background on your devices.

I’m so excited about this! 🥰

Following the #socialdistancing rule in hopes to flatten the curve and help our healthcare workers.
.
I follow the news & stay in touch with my family in Europe daily. Being aware of what is happening not just in my immediate area, my county & state, the country itself but also the world, is oh so important. Show compassion. Have empathy and be kind.
.
While events and regular photo shoots should be postponed, and some might possibly be cancelled, please don’t forget that this is also an incredibly difficult time for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
.
If you shop, shop local, shop small. Buy gift cards. Personally, I’m considering going through my hard drives and working on setting up a limited edition print shop to help supplement.

Confirmed coronavirus cases from wedding hits 31

Heavy hearts.

Please...reschedule. Most vendors will try and work with you as best as possible. This is our livelihood too and we would prefer to keep the business versus loosing our entire income. However, PLEASE do NOT insist on going through with your planned events putting others in danger right now.

While this article is reporting from NSW, Australia...I know many fellow photographers here in the US and abroad in Europe who are still scheduled to photograph weddings & events in the coming weeks.

Be safe. Be considerate. Be kind.

I strongly believe that if we all pull together...we will come out of this on the other side as a stronger community, a stronger nation, hopefully filled with more compassion, understanding, and LOVE for one another.

How to take better selfies with your phone - BRC Photography

I know everyone is being affected in some way by this Coronavirus outbreak. I've seen so many heartbreaking reports and stories from all over the world including from my own past clients who happen to be stationed in Italy with the military at the moment.

I have also seen the most insane photos and stories about this bizarre toilet paper buying craze. Which apparently is another global phenomenon. Like....why TP? My first thought was to stock up on soap, not TP. But hey...what do I know.

However, there is something I do know a good deal about...and that's taking portraits.
Specifically: headshots...aka the selfie.

Many of you have asked me over the years to put together a video or some guide or something with some tips and tricks about how to take better selfies. So, when I was required to put together a short educational video for my business marketing class I am currently taking in school I figured, why the heck not make it about something I'm actually pretty darn good at and probably also already known for.

If you're interested to read more or are one of those who've been asking me to put something like this together...head on over to my blog.
I'm definitely not a pro when it comes to videos, so please keep that in mind.

We as entrepreneurs and small business owners often live a lonely work-life.

We don’t necessarily have employees or colleagues. And unless we meet up with other entrepreneurs...we might not actually get to talk to another person all day. I see it happening more and more, and have felt this myself in the past, that you start to feel more than just loneliness. That feeling of sadness sweeps into the rest of your being and you start doubting yourself, your craft, maybe even your business or why the heck you started going out on your own to begin with - you doubt your why.

While feelings of loneliness, sadness, doubt and failure are totally normal and will probably pop up in anyone’s life at some point...choosing to talk about it, to acknowledge that those feelings are ultimately toxic and that you don’t want them to have the power, are all steps in the right direction.

I’ve learned many healthy ways to get out of such negative mindsets and general ruts so that they don’t take over and take charge of leading your life and running your business.
I‘d love to share just a few of them with you:

🌟Make a list of positive self-affirmations.
🌟Make a vision board for yourself and if you’d like to keep things separate: another one for your business - have fun with this!
🌟Meditate.
🌟Meet up with a friend.
🌟Go OUTSIDE! Being outside, even when the weather is not so nice...is cleansing and refreshing to your soul!
🌟Exercise. This can be just 15-30min of walking. Or doing some yoga at home.
🌟 Pick 1 attainable goal for next 1-3 weeks. ( Drinking more water/day, eat healthy meals, read a book/scripture, listen to 1 podcast that has nothing to do with business but instead with personal development....) Achieving your attainable goal will leave you feeling excited & proud of your accomplishment and elevates your mood and mindset.

Someone else can tell you all day long how amazing you are but it is far more important for YOU to tell yourself this. Look in the mirror and tel yourself some version of: “You’re amazing, talented, you have many facets and many feelings. You are worthy and I am so proud of you!”

See the effects that will follow. 🥰

02/04/2020

You guys...I want to inspire other women. I want to empower them. I want them to embrace, love and support who they are NOW. Give yourself grace. Look in the mirror and talk to yourself like you’re talking to your best friend. Stop all the negative self-talk and start your day with loving and supportive self-affirmations. If you don’t know where to start, here are a few to get your mind going:
🌟 I am beautiful.
🌟 I am strong.
🌟 I am smart.
🌟 I am kind.
🌟 I can do hard things.
🌟 I have a life of abundance.
🌟 I find joy.
🌟 I am enough.
🌟 I am full of talent.
🌟 I have power.
🌟 I am deserving.
🌟 I am of infinite worth.

Pick 3 of these and start with those. Don’t wait. Do it now. Take a second, look yourself in the eyes, take a deep, strong breath and speak them out loud or, if you can (since I just recently learned that not all can actually have an internal monologue 🤯) speak them in your thoughts.

As we come to a close from the busy holiday season...here’s a public service announcement to my local fellow pro photographers AND clients & friends:

Cobb County charges a hefty fee to shoot at their local parks! While the city of Roswell has been charging a fee for all their parks for quite some time, theirs is a reasonable amount with an annual option if you operate often in Roswell. As of now, there is no annual fee in place for Cobb County and each shoot at a local park will cost you a minimum of an additional $100. 😔 While I absolutely understand why they felt the need to add a mandatory charge, something that makes me angry myself, I do not agree with the rate they have set in place.

If your photographer does not point out to you this added fee, or raises their prices to cover this fee based on your shoot location - you are most likely NOT working with a professional or someone who runs a legitimate and legal business. Be aware. 🎄

One of my most passionate work is probably the work that allows me to show other women their beauty. #bodypositivity
💛
When I am given the opportunity to awaken a confidence in someone they had long forgotten or didn’t even know they had to begin with, when they feel beautiful of simply who they are, when they see the woman they have become and the challenges they’ve overcome, when they recognize that taking the time to do something strictly for THEM just because...it’s a feeling of such joy.
💛
I’ve been learning a lot about talents in my school work through @byupathwayworldwide and I recognized that while many might think photography is a big talent of mine, which in a small part it is, I’ve also dedicated years of learning and studying this craft and honing my skills. I have invested hours upon hours of hard work and grit. I realized that photography isn’t necessarily my “talent” but that the fact that I get to show others God’s Love for them and their individual beauty and dare I say infinite and self-worth - THAT is MY God-given talent. Something that came to was given to me and allows me to show, share and bring joy to others including myself. It’s a talent I don’t ever want to loose so I will continue to use it whenever and wherever I can; sharing it with others whenever the opportunity presents itself. #talent #godgiven #beauty #blackandwhitephotography
