Life lately... it's been a little coconuts 🙃 While I wouldn't have it any other way, I'm really looking forward to enjoying a rare weekend off, especially a rainy one! And maybe (actually, definitely) with some coconut drink in hand 🥥🍹

Storytime: Back in 2004, I attended my first show EVER (I was 18 and a late bloomer to the live music world). It was Shapeshifters, Busdriver, and 2Mex at the (where my underground backpacker hip hop heads at lol)

I was so fascinated with the logistics of it all -- the check-in process, the lighting, the stagehands, the merch table, the flow of the show, everything. I knew right then and there that *this* was what I wanted to do: work in live events and own a music venue.

Along the way, I found myself in weddings and social events, working closely with other venues. Early on in my career, one of my clients had a string of bad luck with not just one, but TWO venues (it just wasn't fair to them). It was a frustrating time, and I was reminded again of my dreams of owning a place where I can make things different.. a space where we can show up and show love to anyone who enters.

Fast forward to today... and we own a mf'in VENUE 🎉🎉🎉 , , and acquired , an intimate event space in the heart of Old Town. We're family owned and operated (backed by a loving, talented, gritty af team) and ready to do the damn thing!

I won't get into all details, but I will say that I am fully and completely beside myself still. Feeling blessed, thankful, and excited.

Thank you to + for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to take what they built to new heights. Their legacy will live on 💕

SixteenFourteen Events has always been about love (Corinthians 16:14 - "let all you do be done in love"). We lead with love for our clients, our vendors/partners, each other, and ourselves -- no matter religion, orientation, identity, etc. We always try to share our love through our dedication, service, and hard work, and now we get to extend that same love through our new venue 🥹🥰

And that's a wrap on the first (work) week of the year! Kicked it off with venue tours, creating design plans, sending proposals for new inquiries, booking new clients (🥹), meetings on meetings, plenty of 'circling back' lol, and lots of coffee ☕️

On the personal side, we celebrated my *husband's* birthday (still so fun to say), started a new workout regimen (typical, haha), started season 2 of The White Lotus (so good), and took my first dance class in YEARS! Was hella rusty, but so so fun!

Definitely an eventful start to the new year ✨️ thankful, excited, ready 🙏🏽💕

The venue search was game over once our grooms saw .. it was love at first sight 😍 I mean, how can you not fall for this place?!

We wanted to lean into the charm of it all. Hanging wisteria, organic greenery, and lush floral arrangements as if it were growing here for years. (Vegan) leather accents to compliment and soften the structural brick, wood, and metal elements. And candles aplenty to highlight all of the gorgeous features. For me, it's the black on black touches, of course! 🖤

Looking at this photo, I'm brought back to a time that already seems so distant. When the world was shut down, when nothing was certain, when there was no end in sight. Leading up to this day was a rollercoaster of emotions.

And then I remember the wedding weekend -- packing up my Turo van with the prettiest rentals, driving up the coast with my road dog , hittin up Santa Barbara and Los Alamos, walking thru , and getting out of our little cabin (fever) for a moment.

Then I remember how special this wedding was. And although T+S had to reduce their 150 guest count to just 6 immediate family members, they decided not to sacrifice on the design. We went all the way out, creating beauty in a time that was less than that.

So, although this photo puts me right back on that emotional rollercoaster, I'm thankful for the ride -- dips and all 🖤
