Our Vision is to serve the community as a space to transcend barriers and fosters community through art. DuYe Moves is a community-driven initiative that offers free dance, yoga, and Tai Chi/QiGong on Governors Island. The program is accessible and inclusive, welcoming NYC residents and our global visitors to a vibrant lawn space on Colonels Row for creative expression. Our mission is to become a
go-to destination on Governors Island and a ubiquitous part of Summer in the City, serving in the years and decades to come. Last year we hosted over 2500 people on the lawns of Governors Island. Our Vision is to serve the community as a space to transcend barriers and foster community through the joy of arts. DuYe means dance in the West African language of Ewe. Saturdays are dedicated to getting folks moving with dance yoga, Tai Chi/QiGong and art workshops with the great teaching artists and culture carriers. Scheduled so far we have classes in Samba, Bellydance, West African, QiGong, Kizomba, Tai Chi/QiGong Family These activities have well-documented benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, flexibility, coordination, and mood enhancement. Our classes are accessible to all, enhancing the overall health and well-being of community members, ensuring that these benefits are available to everyone. Sundays KD Diallo curates “Choreography in Process” a series which offers choreographers an outdoor stage to work through pieces of choreography, run throughs and conversations about the creative process. The program gives choreographers the opportunity to give the viewers a lens into their ways of creating, being and doing as they explore all of the textures, qualities and processes that inform their work.
