"BLINK THREE TIMES!"

This is historically my advice to those living through a moment they'll want to remember for all eternity. My theory is if we do this, the AI which someday will upload our consciousness can easily grab the best-of bookmarks from our glorious lifetimes. And, y'know it certainly doesn't hurt to train a somatic body trigger our brains associate with the feeling of peak experience. That's a pretty good feeling to have on tap.

Well, this week is finally NEOTROPOLIS - the fully immersive cyberpunk festival it's been my honor to help build. We've got 5 full days of interactive storytelling and nightly theatrical events to show how players are shaping the fate of the planet. I can't wait to show you all what we made, and if you didn't get tickets before they sold out, let's grab a synthahol afterward and I'll talk your ear off.

And I'm so damn proud of this thing that I'm blink blink blinking back the tears.

After Neotropolis - Well, I'm going to suddenly have LOTS more time on my hands. Hit me up! If you're making something really cool that needs an interactive show or playable place - let's make something great together.

I'll also be launching a new instructional series on how to game design BIG for mass-market make-believe. It's about the unique best practices for interactive, collaborative storytelling for the general population. It’s Imagi-Ne'er-Do-Wells! Play the award-winning creativity gameshow at LA's longest-running immersive makers monthly meetup. Next meeting Tuesday Dec 3rd, 7pm @ The Obscure. Featuring venerable celebrity judge JARED BUTLER — creator of the WASTELAND WEEKEND and NEOTROPOLIS immersive festivals!

Three little words: FULL. IMMERSION. EVENT.

Jared Butler's two blockbuster annual festivals "Wasteland Weekend" and "Neotropolis" require all participants to dress in costume and adhere to theme as they co-create these futuristic worlds, spilling over with jaw-dropping original artistic contributions. If, indeed, the best way to predict the future is to invent it, then Jared Butler is the Nostrodomus of nukes. Jared Butler is the Nostrodomus of neon.

The first, Wasteland Weekend, takes place on a a post-apocalyptic future Earth with dystopian costumes, campsites and vehicles, live bands and DJs, fire, burlesque and other live performers. The second, Neotropolis, realizes a cyberpunk exoplanet where aliens and robots abound, adding one final immersive layer: a five-day live action game where guests may cavort and quest with costumed interactors to re-balance power in its electric story universe.

Not content to merely create worlds, Butler is also an accomplished screenwriter, producer and the voice of Captain Jack Sparrow for Disney. What he cannot make, is only that which he has never tried.

Ugh - DISGUSTING! Brett's face looks like something Death brought in his suitcase. And we have to see it at EVERY check-in table at EVERY event. (--To say nothing of the zoom calls, board and committee meetings to plan those TEA events.) YUCK!!!

"Cool events. Cheap events. More events."

Brett Jackson (2nd term "career politician") has co-chaired the events committee since 2019, co-creating and staffing all the cool original events for the TEA Western Division. In 2024 alone, Brett championed "Monthly Mixer Meetups" which added twelve new, low-cost yearly events - near DOUBLING our TEA events programming. If re-elected, you just know he'll be right back to his old tricks again.

If you hate that face (BARF!) please vote your conscience.

But if you love cool events, cheap events, and more events: perhaps vote for Brett anyway.

Bonding over their love of David Lynch films, co-creators Thomas Meston and Blake Hodges-Koch have created not simple entertainment -- but a cult-following.

Their immersive escape-game-meets-Airbnb in Joshua Tree is a deservedly decorated darling. Wild Heart Ranch garnered the prized Golden Lock Award in 2024 as a "Format Breaker." It was a TERPECA Nominee in 2023, enjoys a Morty rating of "VERY POSITIVE" and holds a 4.98 star rating on AirBNB with over 150 reviews. Glowingly described as "charming," "otherworldly" and "unforgettable," it would not be an exaggeration to call it the Twin Peaks of overnight immersive experiences.

Blake Hodges-Koch with his filmmakers eye and virtuoso game design, could be described
as the Sheriff Harry Truman of Twin Peaks of overnight immersive experiences. Without exaggeration, obviously.

I said "could."

Thomas Meston with his mastery of technology and uncanny performance acumen could be described as the Big Ed Hurley of Twin Peaks of overnight immersive experiences.  And, in a certain light, Dick Tremayne.
