Obsidian Photography Studios

I want to thank Obsidian's clients, SO much, for continuing to ask when I'm getting "back in the saddle", so to speak, and voicing your concerns. The answer is "NOW!"

I have been through some serious spinal drama over the last couple of years, due to a severe c-spine injury. It has been a slow, painful road, and I am still physically limited, so at this time, weddings are, sadly, still a great, big no-no....BUT I have discovered I can still do essentially every other kind of photo session, including engagement, maternity, family, senior, prom, graduation, special occasions, headshots, bo***ir....well, as I said, everything but weddings! Lol! So, don't forget to book with me for your next senior session, graduation, portfolio headshots, or just anything that crosses your mind!

I was fortunate enough to be able to carry out a senior session for sweet miss Autumn Smith last year, and now, I've had the absolute pleasure of capturing these prom pictures for Autumn AND her sister, Morgan Smith, along with their handsome dates, Corey Anders, and Austin Gabbard! There will be many more from these amazing youngsters, so stay tuned!

For all of my Obsidian Photography clients: I haven't forgotten about you! I'm answering messages as quickly as I can, and I'll get back to you ASAP! If I did a session for you within the last 5 days or so, you'll see your previews very soon. If you're trying to schedule a session with me, I'll get to you before the day is gone. My husband has been in the hospital since early Saturday morning, and required an unexpected minor surgery. He's okay, but has major blood clotting issues, so he's still in the hospital. We're just muddling through, and taking it day by day until he's home and completely stabilized. We're hoping he can be discharged today, so we can get back to something similar to "normal"! If you're already scheduled with me for the weekend, this won't affect your session, so don't worry!

Meet Megan Kunkel! A graceful beauty, full of talent, and one very unique talent, at that! When she contacted me about a session, I was completely clueless about her specific art, and found myself on Google, searching for information about it. When I realized what she meant, I was so excited to get started!
Megan was a complete joy to work with, and I can honestly say, this brave soul is truly an inspiration!
When asked what this beautiful artistic expression meant to her, and how she got started, this was her reply:
"About a year and a half ago, I was watching one of those talent competition reality shows, and they showcased a woman who had battled cancer and still trained and performed aerial silks. Her grace and passion was inspiring and I kept thinking about her act and rewatching it for the next couple of weeks. I started googling how someone even gets started in such a thing and found Bella Forza Lexington (now known as Sora Aerial Arts). I wanted to try it, but I was hesitant to go alone and definitely didn’t know anyone willing to learn such a thing with me. It took me a little time, but I finally got the courage up to take my first introduction class and I’m so glad I did. I was nervous and intimidated to walk in the studio my first time, but I was met with smiling, supportive, friendly faces. That is the first lesson my aerialist journey taught me, don’t be afraid to try new things and don’t be afraid to do it alone. Training aerial arts has helped me to face fears in a safe environment, have goals to work toward, and provided me with an outlet for both my happy and stressful days. It has truly became “my thing.” But perhaps the most important thing it has taught me is that what my body can DO is so much more important than how it looks. That has been such a confidence booster for me. I am no longer as self conscious about the physical appearance of my body. I’m much more focused on celebrating the wonderful things it can do and working towards doing even more amazing things with it. So I guess the entire point is, you only live once so try everything without fear, find what you enjoy, and do more of what you love and what makes you smile!"

Okay, my dearest Obsidian followers! It's back to school time, and the weather is perking right up out there! Either drop me a message in my inbox here at Obsidian Photography Studios, or call me at (606) 260-1994 or (606) 260-9068 to book your session. (Please leave a voicemail for me, if I can't answer you in time, and I will return your call! You can also text me, and that would ensure that I may be able to respond much faster! )

Family sessions, head shots (for modeling, campaigns, or any other business purpose you may have in mind), fashion photography, senior photos, newborn sessions, band promotions, or just simply treat yourself with a solo session for beautiful YOU! Trust an experienced professional to show you and your family's images in the best light possible without over editing your natural look. Anyone can take a photo and cover it in heavy instagram filters, and that's not what we do here. You deserve to look your very best! We have openings throughout the rest of August with very reasonable prices, so hurry before you lose a spot.

Although I've only had the pleasure of just meeting beautiful Allie yesterday, I've known Bradley since he was just a little guy! He is the son of one of my oldest and dearest friends, and how happy I was, to get to capture these special moments for them. Artemus Bridge in Knox County, KY, used to be one of my favorite old "haunts", among all of us heathens, when we were much younger, so I was thrilled to revisit those memories, at the same time!

Allow me to introduce you to one tough Union grad. Her name is Kendall, and she's ready to take on the world, with enough drive and courage to make that world change. You've heard of those people, that hear gunfire, and they take cover. She's the type to see what she can do to help.
Being advised, and guided, by her loving sister, Janessa; Kendall made a concious decision to rise above circumstances, that would have chained most people to a destiny they didn't want. Already an inspiration to others, and equipped with a Bachelor of science, criminal justice, Minor in psychology, and certificate in chemical dependency, I expect nothing less from her, in the future.
