Congratulations to Those Who Participated in the Senior Olympics!

We are proud to celebrate the LWSC members who participated in and placed in this year's Senior Olympics. By competing in this year's games, you have demonstrated the many ways to lead healthy lifestyles for older adults. It is no secret that baby boomers have entered their golden years and are becoming more conscious about health and the way they age, and staying fit and active is the best answer to aging. Congratulations!

The pandemic has exacerbated many of the issues faces.

Why does Social Security Matter?

* For about 1 in 6 seniors, it provides 90 percent or more of their income.

*45% of Black seniors and 52% of Latinx seniors rely on Social Security for all or nearly all of their income.

*Social Security pays monthly benefits to more children than any other federal program.

*Over 9 million veterans received Social Security benefits in 2020.

*Millennials are projected to rely more on Social Security for their retirement security than their parents or grandparents.

Lou Walker Senior Center I want to join you in celebrating Theresa Walker for .

Theresa Walker, wife of community activist and former It's In DeKalb Commissioner Lou Walker, started her career in public relations at Six Flags over Georgia.

She went on to work for The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and Cohn & Wolfe Public Relations, where she worked on such prestigious campaigns as Maxwell House and the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

In the mid-80s the Walkers became entrepreneurs, starting Paragon Productions, a public relations and marketing firm that became very prominent in the metro Atlanta business and political communities.
The will direct nearly $2B to expand Medicaid in Georgia—helping roughly 500,000 Georgians secure the health care they need. Today, I met with folks at Emory Healthcare in DeKalb County and the Lou Walker Senior Center to hear first-hand what this critical investment means for Georgia.
