In a collaborative partnership with United Way of Greater Atlanta, the AARP Experience Corps is seeking altruistic volunteers who would love to work with Pre-K to 3rd graders to strengthen student literacy skills.
This volunteer program aids students in becoming better readers, helps older adults to thrive and communities to grow stronger.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
Age 50 or older
High school diploma or GED (minimum)
Pass a criminal background check
Pass a basic literacy screening
Attend 25 hours of annual training
Available 5-15 hours a week during the school year
Ability to volunteer in-person or virtually at select DeKalb County schools

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!
Congratulations to Mrs. Conneva Hall, Recipient of the 2023 Theresa Walker Senior of the Year Award!
Mrs. Hall is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and pledged at Fort Valley State College in the spring of 1973. She retired from the DeKalb County School System after 31 years of service and has stayed busy since then.
She is a member of the Lou Walker Senior Center and is active in many of its clubs and organizations. Mrs. Hall is also a member of the DeKalb County Branch of the NAACP and volunteers with the March of Dimes, Meals on Wheels and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital just to name a few.
Thank you to everyone who supported the Theresa Walker Senior of the Year Awards Luncheon and for your support of DeKalb For Seniors, Inc. Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Lou Walker Senior Center and its members.

Fresh on DeK Mobile Farmers Market Returns to LWSC

DeKalb County Extension announces the ninth season of Fresh on DeK, DeKalb County’s Mobile Farmers Market, which travels throughout the county offering nutrition education, live onsite food demonstrations and fresh fruits and vegetables for sale.
Fresh on DeK brings fresh fruits and vegetables to DeKalb County.
Fresh on DeK's purpose is to improve the health of the community, the viability of local produce and to preserve the environment for future generations by providing access to fresh produce and nutritional education programming throughout DeKalb County.
In addition to low-cost fresh produce, Fresh on DeK offers weekly nutrition education classes on Zoom and Facebook Live on the Fresh on DeK page.
