So upsetting 🥲 you will be very missed Yellow Cab. 🚕

What began as a temporary home for an arts festival slowly became something much larger.

Volunteers cleaned the building, hauled away debris, and transformed the former taxi garage into an event space. Over time, Yellow Cab evolved into a venue, community hub, and gathering place that became a fixture of Dayton's arts and music scene.

Now, after nearly 15 years as a community space and nearly a decade as a full-time venue, Yellow Cab's owners have announced the bar will close following its final scheduled event on Oct. 31.

To understand what Dayton is losing, it helps to understand how Yellow Cab came to exist in the first place.

"It started out as a place for a bunch of punks to do things and make things and create," said Heather Lea Reid, a Sideshow organizer who now works as a bartender at Yellow Cab. "And then it evolved into community."

Sideshow was never meant to stay in one place. Organizers typically found vacant buildings, transformed them into temporary arts spaces, and moved on when the festival ended.

Yellow Cab changed that.

Watch artists Marco Vera, Ariel White, and Bil Tipton create a collaborative artwork live during When Rabbits Fly.
An exquisite co**se is a creative process where multiple artists contribute to the same artwork, building on one another's ideas to create something unexpected, playful, and entirely unique.
The finished piece will be auctioned during the evening, with proceeds supporting the Dayton Society of Artists and our mission to connect, support, and educate artists and the community.
