Re-opeining of Sweeney Barn (wedding venue in Manassas).

Please feel free to share what other venues or wedding businesses are opening their doors again.

I have followers who might found this information helpful.

#wedding #photographer

As we begin re-opening our venue for weddings and events, Sweeney Barn is committed to the safety of our guests and our team members. We have completed the Global Biorisk Advisory Council Microbial Warrior certification, and we have taken the #princewilliamstrong business pledge to practice sanitary guidance from our state. While our procedures and precautions have changed, the love and excitement we feel for our couples getting married remains the same. We're looking forward to welcoming the rest of our 2020 weddings!

The trend for small intimate Weddings with immediate family in 2020 created the need for unique locations and venues. Since couples can't have the big Wedding they dreamed about, at least they can have special, unique and creative location.
Do you know beautiful, unique place, a venue or location for a small wedding? Please share it with my couples.

Please, support local businesses.
Today I would like to support a small family business from Leesburg, Virginia "Honey Bee Pastries". These guys are amazing. They offer a wide variety of pastries: cakes for every occasion, cookies, pies etc.

I have worked with them so many times, I ordered from them for my personal events, and every time they surprise me with their professionalism, how organized and reliable they are and how amazing and delicious their creations are.

If you looking for The Wedding cake, I highly recommend them, because they can make any dream cake designs to come true.

Many wedding venues are offering virtual tours of their venue these days. If your venue was permanently closed, don't rush to cancel the whole wedding, reach out to another venue or ask your planner, or any other wedding vendor to help you to find a new venue and to do a virtual tour. Postpone, don't cancel!

I am going to try to make a list of venues that are offering virtual tour, if you one of them, please leave your link or contact information below.

A friendly message from a few of your local NoVa photographers ❤️ We truly miss being out on location or in our studios with you all! Please know that we're all doing our best to navigate this time as small businesses and have probably all had to come to some hard decisions.

If you have the time to show some love to all of these wonderful photographers, please do! Some of us are running specials or giving back to the community in other ways during this crazy time so go take a scroll lol 😉 😊

A HUGE thanks to everyone that volunteered!

Today we celebrate these two young men! I love challenges, and these guys are the biggest challenge I have ever accepted. They taught me that there are always at least two points of view for each situation, I admire their patience, I am amazed daily by how similar and how different they are at the same time. I love my relationship with them, and how they proved so many times, that mom is not always right. I wish that they will continue to make good choices in life and hope they will make the world a better place.

Happy 15th Birthday, my sons!

Proud to be part of this amazing community of photographers.

Happy Earth Day!
Yesterday we had an opportunity to visit the tulip fields at Burnside Farms in Nokesville, Virginia. Briefly about yesterday’s weather in the video.
Even though it was super windy, it was nice to be outside and enjoy the beauty of this world!

Technically speaking, focus is the result of a combination of your lens aperture and light.
With smaller apertures (f/8 to f/12) less light will come from outside to the image sensor. As a result, a big depth of field, and a bigger part of the image will be in focus. Wider apertures (f/1.4 to f/4), the light rays are spread all over the sensor, and depth of field is narrow. I’ll talk more about deth of field in my post next Tuesday.

You have at least three choices of the focusing method: Single shot autofocus (AF-S), Continuous Autofocus (AF-C) and Manual focus. Each focus method will best suit just a few photographic genres. We use manual focus for static scenes, when you have time to settle down and refocus if there’s the need. For slow moving scenes we use the single shot autofocus and for fast moving situations we use the continuous autofocus.

Autofocus areas modes: the single point autofocus, the dynamic area and the auto area autofocus.

In landscape/architecture photography, generally recommended manual mode or AF-S.

Which focus mode you’ll choose for portraits mostly depends on how much control you have over the situation. If you have your own model, use manual. If you can't control the situation, choose the AF-S mode with the single point or dynamic area modes selected.

For sport or action scenes, you’ll have to use the AF-C with the dynamic area or auto area modes, depending on how fast your subject is moving.

Another option I would like to bring your attention to is Back Button Focus. As soon as you'll discover this button, your life will never be the same again.
There is also Hyperfocal Distance and Focus stacking, but if you are a beginner, you don't need it right now, because these techniques will come handy very rarely and you can come back to them later.

The main subject of your image, by definition, should be its focal point.
Create a focus. Think about where you want the viewer’s eye to go, what story you are trying to tell, and how you are going to do it before pressing the click button.

If you shooting portraits REMEMBER:
1) When shooting portraits of people or animals - focus on the eyes. Nothing draws viewers eyes to a portrait like sharply focused eyes and a blurred background;
2) If head of your subjects is turned to the side, focus on his eye, that is closer to you;
3) When you’re photographing more than one person in a single shot, focus on the eye of the person nearest to the camera, lining everyone up on the same focal plane, or shooting at a smaller aperture setting for a deeper depth of field. Or if it’s obvious that one of the people you are photographing is more important for one reason or another, then clearly it should be this person whose eyes are sharply focused.

Now that you know all about the focus, it is time to put this information to good use by taking your camera into your hands and experimenting!

Here I am with my rubric #TuesdayPhotoTip

Tip #1 Shoot Both Vertical and Horizontal.
If you are new in photography, you probably noticed, that you are taking all landscape photos in horizontal format and all of portraits in vertical format. And there is nothing wrong with it, it is just boring and limits your creativity.

Some people prefer one format, more than other, often horizontal. It is more natural to keep the camera in landscape (horizontal) orientation, so it can be easy to forget shooting in a portrait (vertical) position.

I suggest you to shoot in both. Horizontal shots are conveying a sense of space, vertical - focusing the attention on a subject.

Take a horizontal and a vertical shot of the same subject and decide later in post-processing which view is best. It helped me a lot to develop my eye for framing and composition and I am sure it will do the same for you.

Help me continue to support our local flower farms here in Maryland & Virginia and our other American flower farmers across the U.S. this week and thereafter. There is so much beauty blooming in almost every region this month and we need to bring that beauty indoors!

While staying home and keeping yourselves and others safe, it is still important to find time to do what you love.

Share which books you are reading or which have inspired you.

This one I am reading right now:
"Girl, Stop Apologizing : a Shame-Free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals" by Rachel Hollis.

Wisdom from this book:
If not now, then when? Stop living your life waiting for a moment to be special enough for you to look, feel and act your best. You don't need a special moment or any reason at all to do that. Stop waiting for someday. Don't wait to have the time, start planning to make the time.

Your Perfect Wedding Photographer

I know I posted about this before, but this article really does say it all. This is why you should have an Unplugged Wedding! An unplugged wedding is where you and your guests unplug from the world and gadgets. An unplugged wedding is about enjoying the moment, be present, it's when you look down the aisle and see your friends and family looking back at you, seeing their emotions, smiles and tears, feeling the love. Consider having an unplugged ceremony! I see so many people popping out into the aisle to get the kiss and blocking the professionals you actually paid to be there.

This is why you should go unplugged... 📵
