Two challenges for tonight’s show.

1. Every trick I do needs to be a hands off, no touch trick. With the climate we are in, I’ve put together 5 routines that make sure that the audience never comes in physical contact with me or the props. Fortunately, 1 of the 5 is a routine that I have done for over 20 years and was the first thing I made sure I could do hours after I accidentally cut a third of my middle finger off.

2. Writing the organization’s name with my left hand. I’m right handed and found this to be extremely tough. Normally my wife, Ronnie would do this for me but she is at the venue decorating it with balloons. I was there earlier today and did everything I could to help. Then I took off early to make sure that I could get the deck completed for this client. This was my first try writing in the side of a deck of cards with my non dominant hand. Not too shabby (I’m holding it a bit crooked and askew.)

Showtime in 2 hours!!!

Show 2 of 4 in the two weeks after the accident is over and done with. Great crowd. Next show is Saturday night. Still trying to find a nickname. “Nine Digit Dave” has a nice ring to it.

Worst nightmare imaginable when it comes to my career happened on Friday morning when I cut 1/3 of my middle finger off. They weren’t able to put it back on. This is actually making me a better magician than before. Turn your setback into a springboard.

2 holiday parties booked in Salt Lake City this year. The first one was about 50 people. The second will be for 150 people a show for 8 shows (total of about 1200 people.)

The history and architecture of that place is amazing. I already have a breakfast place picked out. Where should I have dinner?

This is all I have ever wanted...

Ever since I saw a clown at Circus Circus in Reno show me my first magic trick when I was four years old, I wanted to do magic. I think at age four, I wanted to recreate that feeling for myself. When I was five, I performed in front of my first audience. I wasn’t a great magician that night but I performed the magic and I made the crowd laugh. A lot.

From then on, I wanted to make other people laugh and be amazed. It was no longer for me, but others. My Dad would drive me to the local magic club once a month and my Mom would drive me to the magic shop every now and then. They wanted me to create my own magic as well as buying tricks from the shop. I took the classes throughout school and into college to help me with every part of the art including woodshop, theatre, business marketing, communications, and golf (there is no better place to sign a contract than on the course!) I worked for a couple of magic companies in California before moving to Vegas when I was 22 years old. My parents had taken me to Vegas as well as Lake Tahoe several times to see the shows and hang out with the magicians so I felt like I needed to be there all the time.

When I got to Vegas I tried my hand at a few “day jobs” and performed at night for a while as the opening act for a hypnotist. Through the years here in Sin City, I have been lucky enough to meet many of my entertainment heros growing up and had some of them help me write routines for my material.

Now I am a full time corporate entertainer who is married to a beautiful balloon artist. Her and I fill in for a magician downtown with our show, “Pink Tie Magic: Cynical and Senseless Sorcery,” when he needs to take the day off.
