There once was a girl from Germany who reached out to me to create a bouquet and two boutonnières for her fiancé and young curly haired son. Pink and blue leopard print and add lightening bolts. On it!
She informed me they would be flying out to Vegas to get married, then take a road trip up the coast, and asked if I had any tips on traveling in the states with a young child.
Over the next few months, we exchanged more notes and PDFs and itineraries than was necessary, and I’d find myself laughing out loud reading her emails. They brought me so much joy.
On the morning of their wedding, I went to deliver their items. Laura was getting her hair and makeup done, so Christopher came out to grab the bouquet, boutonnieres, and a little box of American candies for Franz.
I was genuinely sad I wouldn’t get a chance to meet Laura in person, so I asked if we could keep emailing even after her wedding. She agreed! She sent photos of their post-wedding road trip. We were officially “Pen Friends”.
*Now this is where the true magic happens* About 6 months later, I got an opportunity to travel to Germany. Laura and I made plans to finally meet… in Germany!
Just days before the trip, I happened to notice a local floral preservation company posted a photo of Laura’s bouquet now encased in resin, and the caption “sending this to Germany.” I immediately reached out and asked if they already sent it and if not, could I take the bouquet with me and hand-deliver it? They agreed! I carefully packed it in my suitcase and carried it across the globe.
So in the end, I was able to give Laura her bouquet in person after all, it was just in Germany. How lucky! This is Laura and I having a blast in Germany 🙂✌️
Laura and Christipher’s wedding was in 2023. We are still Pen Friends to this day. In fact, it was Laura’s birthday a few days ago and I owe her a video of me singing Happy Birthday in German 🤭
