Sunday Sticky Buns

Firstly, sticky buns are not cinnamon rolls. These swirled soft, pillowy yeast rolls are baked on top of a rich bed of brown sugar and butter and then flipped to reveal a bubbling, golden glaze of caramel goodness.

While pecans are a common addition to southern sticky buns some states which were not able to access or had limited supplies of sugar during the Civil War have also developed variations using molasses.

This item is available with/without pecans, either fully prepared or carefully assembled and ready-to-bake for your convenience.

With the cooler weather starting to set in soups and stews are on everyone's mind.

Rabbit stew evolved from the Acadians' French culinary heritage and was adapted to the ingredients available in Louisiana.

This recipe starts with a whole rabbit, cut into quarters, seasoned and left to rest chilled for at least an hour. Any pieces discarded from quartering are reserved and made into a savory broth which will be used as stock for this dish. Using a dutch oven the rabbit is carefully browned and then placed to the side and the pot is deglazed using the holy trinity (bell peppers, onions, celery), along with garlic, tomato, and red wine.

The carrots, potatoes, and broth are added to the dish, and the rabbit is returned to pot. This dish is then left at a gentle simmer until the rabbit is tender.

Served with a scoop of rice, this savory stew never goes out of style.

Mornings are for muffins.

Fresh blueberry muffins baked to perfection (the secret is to mash some of the berries for a moister muffin, and to let the mix rest overnight in the fridge before baking).

Welcome, it feels like this has been a long time in the making.

Stargazer Catering is a one-woman show, who is occasionally assisted by her very patient husband and family. I have been living in Louisiana now for a little over a decade, and have found my home here in south Louisiana surrounded by a very large Cajun family (which many of you refer to as normal size).
One of my joys has been to collect recipes and master various cuisines as they have caught my fancy. I believe that you can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for a people’s history, traditions, and values through their traditional foods. Mastering Cajun cuisine is just one avenue I have explored, as well as recipes from Mexican, Indian, and Mediterranean regions to name a few.

Somehow over the years my cooking has evolved from bringing potluck style dishes and hor d'oeuvres for get togethers and celebrations, to actively planning food preparation out by ounces, pounds, and portion sizes per person. My small Washingtonian family has probably questioned my sanity over the years when discussing current holiday menus. Casually mentioning that you will be preparing 16 quarts of gumbo, 20lbs of potato salad and enough rice to ensure our Louisiana farmers are employed for years to come has been met with disbelief. For me its become a typical Christmas in the South.

For all of you that know me and have recognized my passion for cooking throughout the years, I would like to thank you for all the feedback and support you have shown me.

And so we begin... welcome to Stargazer Catering, let's create something delicious together.
