I had a special visitor today. One I didn’t even know existed 🐝✨
This is a Bombylius bee fly visiting a zinnia. One of nature’s best little imposters. Bee flies mimic bees for protection, but they’re actually flies! They hover like miniature hummingbirds and sip nectar through their long straw-like mouthparts without even landing sometimes.
Fun facts:
• Bee flies are important pollinators 🌼
• Their fuzzy bodies help collect pollen just like bees
• Some species can hover perfectly still in midair
• They’ve been around since the age of dinosaurs 🦖
Proof that even the tiniest garden visitors have a wild story to tell. 🌸
