Sick of it yet? The latest trend of cartoons by AI is making me giddy, it’s everywhere! Trends come and go, but this one is leaving a wide path of artistic destruction in its wake.
As a professional caricaturist, I’ve spent the last 35 years trying to raise the value of caricatures, which are beloved in British society, but often seen as a bit of cheap fun. Well now they are “A bit of FREE fun” thanks to AI and the market value has plummeted in the public eye, leaving thousands of artists struggling to compete. Of course there will be those who embrace it and use AI to improve their lacking skills (there are many such AI cartoonists listed on Google Romania already) but the bulk of skilled professional caricaturists are seeing a nose dive in studio commissions, me included.
So don’t tell me “it’s a bit of fun” or “just embrace it” because unemployment isnt fun and I expect the path of AI destruction to reach further than just the arts, so watch your jobs!
As for un-friending those who post such AI cartoons, you may find it petty, but if you were a struggling musician and I never went to your gigs or bought your music, but I happily posted crappy AI tunes… Im sure you’d feel the same! So support live art and human artists, before they disappear for good and if you commission me, I promise not to sell your data (facial likeness, name, job, hobbies, family etc) to Musk or his cronies - unlike AI!!
