“blooming into the areas premier florist!”
Our name says it all - Studio Herbage... the areas only boutique floral studio where design is at the heart of everything we do. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Park and perfectly placed for delivery in the communities of Gloversville, Johnstown, Mayfield, Amsterdam and beyond, your hometown florist; James Dempsey AIFD, CFD, is one of the areas only AIFD accredited, professional floral designers with over 30 years practical floristry and horticulture experience. With a background in product development and sales for the mass market floral industry, James brings a uniquely qualified, highly professional perspective to floral design and its personal, corporate and events uses.
The difference that sets Studio Herbage apart from all other florists rests in our education, training and experience. “In todays marketplace it is really not enough just to sell flowers, you need to tell a story, you need to have a unique approach that sets yourself apart from the competition.” James notes, “My horticulture background affords me the opportunity to grow floriculture crops, my sales and product development background affords me the means to market and sell those products in a way that sets us apart from our competitors and believe me, there is competition in floral in small towns. For as much as we hear complaints about the lack or decline of stores/shops in downtowns, we - as American consumers - have not woken up to the notion that we create our own reality. When you make a decision to purchase floral products from a grocery store you are at the same time making a decision NOT to support your local florist!”
“To keep our palette fresh and repertoire current, we grow a curated selection of cut flowers and foliage every year to supplement what we procure from our regular sources and to retain a bit of exclusivity. Last year we grew this enormous white dahlia named “Iceberg”, it was a tremendous hit and was constantly sold out. We will plant twice as much this year. Because of its neutral color it can be used in almost any occasion when you need to emphasize contrast or for monochromatic bouquets which are seeing an ascendancy in certain trend circles”
“One of my favorite pass times is to go out to our cutting garden very early in the morning and begin the day with a bit of weeding while sipping a nice cuppa... I especially like to be in the lavender area as it infuses the dew with its subtle parfum. When you brush by the stems it will rub off and provide a fragrant reminder later in the day.”
