Granada Lamp Post Preservation Update
Update: Historical lamp post and street sign restoration and painting will begin between December 12 and December 16. Our first work (prioritized based on timing of Lamp Head Purchase contributions) will begin with two lamp posts at the corner of Cordova and Granada Blvd. Additional work about the same time will begin on two additional lamp head additions north and south of Granada Blvd on Cordova. We are hoping that this work will be complete before Christmas. Following these four lamp heads/posts, there are an additional eight(8) lamp heads that have been funded for a total of 12 additions to originally lost or damaged street lamps. The additional 8 lamp heads are scheduled for Alcazar Ave (2), Alhambra Dr N (1), Alhambra Drive S (2 or 3), Alhambra Dr W (1), and Barcelona (1).
The work can be quite extensive and expensive for individuals who have agreed to fund these lamp post and lamp head additions, including Lamp Heads ($1500) and electrical connections ($2500), so when you notice these additions, please let your neighbors know that you appreciate their investment in our neighborhood.
In addition to full lamp head/lamp post additions, we have another 40 or more lamp posts that will be getting some form of restoration from lamp head/glass/electrical repair, outlet and light sensor installation, to painting. Again, all of this work is funded by individual neighbor investment. Further, we will be adding a number of replica street signs to corners that no longer have historical street signs in place.
We have also had two neighbors contribute substantial funding to assist neighbors. You know who you are … THANK YOU!
I know this has been a long and tedious process and I appreciate your patience as we have had vendors provide estimates, only later to decline the work, change estimates significantly, or retire. Additionally, my Mom had a significant health issue over the Summer, followed by me being out of town for 7 weeks, further delaying our start.
Our current vendors include the electrician who completed our last significant work in the early 2000’s (and lives nearby), and our painter, Paul Rellihan who grew up on Alcazar Avenue.
For those who have responded with their wishes for lamp post work or restoration, I will be reaching out via group text or email to provide an update more specific to your work request. If you are a Facebook user, I would also suggest checking here at “Granada Centennial” for updates on restoration progress.
For specific questions, please reach out to me using email (mailto:[email protected]) as it is much easier to control on one platform vs. multiple (managing phone messages, text messages, and Facebook messages in addition to email can get confusing).
Thank you,
Vic Ephrem
