I'm A Star Foundation partnered with Ms. Tonisha Landry, to award $8000 in scholarships today. The awards honor the life of Jordan Thorne, Landry's son, our precious STAR who left this physical earth in 2018. Jordan was a graduate of Paxon School for Advanced Studies, and a student at Florida A&M University. He aspired to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy. The Obviously Jordan Scholarship Fund honors his legacy by providing undergraduate scholarship awards to students of single parents who are enrolled in, or seeking entry to, a College or University. Along with I'm A Star Executive Director Mrs. Betty Burney, Jordan's mother, Tonisha Landry, awarded Jasmine Butler, FAMU, 18, Jayla Stewart, Paxon, 18, and Nigeria Fuller, Paxon, 18,and Raven Osborne (not pictured) today at the Jax Chamber. At today's event, Mrs. Burney also honored volunteers and staff who make a difference in the organization. ********* The Obviously Jordan Scholarship Award qualifications were as follows: One (1) $2,500 scholarship for a current college student who graduated in 2019; Two (2) $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors graduating in 2020; One (1) $1,000 scholarship to a current college student who graduated in 2016 (A commemorative scholarship to celebrate the year Jordan Thorne graduated high school) Photos Tonya M. WJXT4 Jenese Harris visited I'm A Star Foundation's Summer Leadership Academy at James Weldon Johnson Middle School. She spoke to the kids, they performed their live newscast for her, and she acted out NEWS scenarios with them. The STARS asked great questions and learned a lot.
