The End of One Chapter, and the Beginning of Another…
Moving a flower and hosta farm is no small undertaking! When this unexpected transition began in July, the task ahead seemed nearly impossible. Looking back at everything we've accomplished over the past few months, I'm honestly amazed!
Throughout July and August, we dug and divided more than 1,000 hostas, preparing for our fall sales while also making sure over 400 varieties (multiples of each) would make the journey to our new home.
Yesterday, we reached another huge milestone as we finished harvesting our 2026 dahlia tubers! Despite digging a couple of weeks earlier than usual, tuber size and production were outstanding overall! I attribute much of that success to pre-starting our tubers and growing primarily in grow bags this season.
In the next few days, the final loads of hostas and dahlias will arrive at their new home in Nebraska. It's hard to believe we're actually at this point!
But with all the excitement of a new beginning comes a bittersweet goodbye. This was our final growing season here in Indiana, and that realization certainly comes with a heavy heart.
For the past 15 years, I've had the privilege of being part of an incredible gardening and flower-centered community here in Fort Wayne. What began as a love of gardening grew into so much more than I ever imagined. Along the way, I've met wonderful people, formed precious friendships, and shared countless conversations over flowers and plants.
Those friendships are truly the greatest gift this journey has given me.
We simply could not have accomplished this enormous move without the incredible support of our family and friends. From digging and dividing to packing, hauling, and everything in between, so many of you stepped up to help. My gratitude is beyond words.
While the future shape of Willow Lane Flower Farm is still taking form, one thing is certain: my love for growing and sharing beautiful flowers isn't going anywhere, it just may be on a much smaller scale!
We are planning to hold our dahlia tuber sale in January, once the tubers have been inspected and our Nebraska nursery license has been obtained.
