Wedding dress storage does matters!
You spent hundreds (or thousands if you didn’t shop at Timeless Bridal) on your wedding dress. Here are some simple things to keep it perfect until your wedding day!
❌ Don’t hang your dress by the straps.
Those delicate straps weren’t designed to support the full weight of your gown for months.
✅ Do use the hanger loops.
The hidden loops sewn inside your dress are there for a reason! They help distribute the weight and prevent stretching.
❌ Don’t let the entire weight of the dress hang.
Especially if you have a ballgown, long train, heavy satin, or beading.
✅ Do use the hanger loop on the train.
This will help distribute the weight of the dress and avoid some stubborn wrinkles
❌ Don’t leave alteration notes, pins, or tags loose.
They can snag, pins can rust, and receipts and notes can bleed ink onto the delicate fabrics.
✅ Do store everything in a separately.
Keep receipts, swatches, extra buttons, and alteration notes together, but always outside of the bag away from your dress.
❌ Don’t spray perfume near your dress.
Perfume, hairspray, self-tanner, and makeup are some of the biggest causes of stains before or on your wedding day.
✅ Do get ready in a different outfit first.
Put your dress on last. And when going for dress fittings or when trying your dress on before your big day, wear little or no makeup & always wash your hands first.
❌ Don’t zip your dress completely shut & forget about it for months.
While your garment bag is meant to protect your gown, sealing it up tightly for months at a time can trap stale air and moisture, especially in humid environments.
✅ Do allow a little airflow.
Leave the garment bag zipper slightly open at the top to allow airflow around the dress. If your home is pet-free and your dress is stored safely away from sunlight, consider leaving the closet door slightly ajar. This can help keep your gown smelling fresh and prevent that stale, stored-away smell before your big day.
